ELLIE was vomiting.

Just a bit of back up support needed here, yesterday in all the heat, Ellie started vomiting, she was sick twice, then I noticed she was wobbling, her back end went really funny, I panicked.

Was watching her for about an hour, she didn't do it with her legs again, and wasn't sick after that either.

She started to wag her tail when I called her, I am not sure if she went funny cause she was being sick at the time, or what happened.
She was normal last night and ate a light meal, and is fine this morning.
Could it have been just being sick and the heat??

Was her back end kind of curled around - sort of hunched up - if so - then I had the same thing with Jake on new years eve - I thought that he was having a stroke - turned out it was just stomach cramps.

Worried the living daylights out of me - I really really thought that he was having a stroke.

Yup, that's it, I thought she was gonna fall over, same idea came to my head, is she having a stroke or something...phew!! I sure panicked.

Thanks Trace.

Glad that was of help.

When I actually think of how he looked right now that I know it was nothing serious - it is really quite funny - he kind of looked like a cat walking sideways.

But I panicked becuase we are only a few months out from losing my other BC - and there is only so much you can take.

Yep that's what she did, sort of back legs in a bit, while she was standing, then she leaned to one side, then the other, then walked forwards a bit, looked like she was gonna fall over, I thought, cripes, is she ok, I screamed her name, I think the shock of that snapped out any pain in her. lol.

Of course she didn't mind the cuddles and attention after, "are you alright Ellie", "come here darling", "let mummy look at you", of course she was wagging her tail. lol.

I am sorry to hear you lost your other dog, that must have been a terrible blow, and quite understandable that you panicked over your other one, they are so precious aren't they.

Thanks for relieving my stress over this, you are truely helpful Trace.

It was most embarrassing when we got to the vets and he was strutting around the vets office trying to look like a tough guy for the other dogs that were there.

I tell you though - as bad as it looked at home - I would have never believed the vet unless I saw his attitude change once he came into contact with something that was more interesting than bowing to his stomach cramps.

And thanks on for the condolances on the loss of my Ellie - she was a great dog, and I could not have coped with losing another once quite so soon afterwards.

I am so glad that I could help you out.

heat stroke can produce the symptoms you described. I would think if she has been herself since this is the most likely cause.
Gosh it feels strange to be talking about heat stroke in the middle of winter (although i know its summer for you!)

Thanks Lou, it was 40c/100f here yesterday. I hosed off Sophie and Wally all day long, wet the mats they sleep on in the porch, hosed the Guinea's, put ice blocks in their water, but Ellie, well she was inside, but down here in the computer room with me, so I didn't think she needed cooling off, obviously did. It got to 35c in here.
I just didn't think....

Ellierat,
Is Ellie the eldest of the dogs? If so that too could have been a factor. I don't think I would have thought of wetting down the inside dog either. On one of the threads yesterday I think I read about freezing water bottles.... we've used that trick on long car trips with Yoda that we know are going to be hot (100F+) Even with the A/C the van got soo stuffy. Plastic gallon jugs filled with water & frozen work great too..

I think the best idea is pack up & move up here to the coldness..
