Exclamation Cadet is here and he is agggrrreeeesssivve

I dont know what to do...he hates Hudson, they want to eat eachother. He is in a crate, in the spare room, and there are not one but two baby gates up seperating the rooms.

Hudson bit me....he didnt mean to....Cadet started growling and Hudson started and they went for eachther even though cadet is in the crate....I was pulling Hudson away....he bit me....I was wearing a sweater, so he just broke the skin...no blood.

WHAT DO I DO????? Can I work with Cadet??? They cant even be in the same room together...How do I get him to like Hudson???

He is great with me....very shy....I dont know what to do...Hudson is my top priority....

HELP ME!!!!

And just a bit of background information about why Hudson bit Mom... Earlier today mom was explaining about how hudson is missing toes. Well, Hudson was trying to give Mom a feel for missing some fingers, because then maybe she'd stop blabing to all the dogs at prodog about his little "problem"

Hope Cadet becomes more accomodating.

I may have missed a thread or two, but how were they introduced?

The crate may be adding to the tension for both dogs.

Not all dogs will get along, you have to stay very strong, and not show fear or nervousness.

Okay He got here about...an hour ago...the lady who brought him said he was dog aggressive.

Cadet is from a reservation...he has had to fight for everything. He is covered from head to toe in scars and cuts from fighting.

She showed up at my door. I put Hudson on his harness and leash, we went out with the intenshions of walking them. We get to her van, she gets Cadet out, and they immedietly go for eachother...we move further apart. We start walking and everything is peachy as long as they are apart from eachother. The second they get too close they try to attack eachother.

We get back in the house. I put Hudson in a septrate room so Cadet can walk around....everything is great...Cadet plays a little but is very scared and VERY sucky....keeps trying to sit in my lap. I think well lets put Cadet in his crate and let them smell eachother thru the crate....NOPE that is when Hudson bit me.....well my arm got in the way of his mouth.

So it is time for the lady to leave....I say...Okay let give this a shot...we put Hudson outside...move the crate into the spare bedroom and put him in it. Let Hudson in and put the babygates up....everything is quite....

But now I have to take Cadet for a walk...and Hudson is out here....I cant think of what to do if I am not here...I feel bad about crating this poor dog all the time...

This is my FIRST real foster....are they all like this??? at what point do I say...this dog is too aggressive for my house????

Please help me

Not all fosters will be like this. I am very surprised they brought you a dog aggressive dog as your first foster.
I think I would give it a little time, see what happens in the next 24 hours. Dont put them together.
If he IS dog aggressive, I would not try to make it work. Its not worth it.

Dont feel bad, my very first foster got into it with Meka in the first 24 hours. I took the foster out to the rescue, I simply was not ready for that. Looking back I probably could have prevented the incident. It takes time and experience to deal with certain issues, its not your fault.

I would try getting them into neutral territory. Hudson will defend his home.

Did she bring you a muzzle? If not, I would go with him first thing in the am and pick one up. (Maybe two from the sounds of it).

Do you have help? Getting your brother to take Hudson while you walk the new dog (several paces away) may help them get used to each other. It also will let you tire both dogs out a little. ON LEASH of course

Other than that, continue with keeping them apart.

I agree with dobe mom. Give it twenty four hours then say no more if its not working. Your dog comes first and you want this dog too be happy and not miserable.

Can you put hudson in the bathroom or another room while you let cadet out just to go potty.

I just got back from taking Cadet for a walk....I will post pics of him in a second....to do this...

We had to put the cats in my room, put Hudson in the basement...I took Cadet out, then my little bro let Hudson back up.

I walked him for a half hour, then came home, kicked the basement window to let my little bro know I was back. He put Hudson back in the basement, cats back into my room then let me in. Cadet is fed and watered...but back in his crate.

I feel so bad for leaving him in his crate but he is not house trained and I cant leave him out of the crate because even thru the baby gate him and Hudson will go at it.

I feel like a huge failer.....and I have only had him for two hours.

I cant leave this poor dog crated ALL the time and I cant keep locking Hudson in the basement.

Your not a failure! This rescue was a little crazy to give you a dog agressive dog as your first foster and also with hudson who they new was kind of territorial. If it is not working out soon(like by mid morning tommorow)I would call em and explain why its not working and that you just want him to be happy, not caged.

You certainly have nothing to feel like a failure about. You are not the cause of this dog's problems.

The people you are fostering him for should be there helping you. After all, the dog has developed some connection with them.

As for crating, it is not a bad thing. Tomorrow, I would try putting him in his crate in the living room. Block off the sides with a blanket so all he can see is thru the front of the crate. Have Hudson in the room but keep him away from the crate, with a leash maybe. When the dogs are quiet, praise and reward them both.
