Umm, is it possible that Tanner could still have stitches...

from when he was neutered over a year ago? I got Tanner's vet records and he was neutered in August of 2003. Yesterday, I was practicing a stand with him and the easiest way to get them to keep from sitting is to have your hand between their back legs. He tried to sit and I grabbed and gelt something not right. I just thought that he had scabs down there. So I rolled him over to look. Okay, scabs are like eye boogers for me, I pick them. I tried to pick it off and Tanner was not a happy man (but no biting surprisingly). So I, more gently this time, was moving hair around and found what I thought looked like a stitch. Bright pink and wiry. I was quite shocked. Quick called the vet but they were already closed. I am flabbergasted. I don't even want to believe what I am seeing. Did they just not get all the stitches out when he was neutered? Or did they use dissolvable but maybe got one wrong kind mixed in? I can't believe that it hasn't been infected. Or maybe it has and no one ever knew. Still waiting for the vet to open. They open late on Friday mornings.

But here is my thought. If he has had this stitch in for over a year without problems, will removing it cause even more? I am sure that skin has grown around it and over it. Ugh. Very frustrated!

Anything is possible but, like you, I think it would be unlikely. When Ariel's suctures did not dissolve they were a small white hard lump and that was within weeks of the procedure. Are you aware of any procedures done lately or injury?

Are you taking him to the vet? When?

Vet doesn't open til 9:00 today, another 15 minutes from now. I will have to wait until then.

I have complete vet history from Tanner's former clinic at home. Wish I had it here so that I could call them but I don't. Since his neuter all he had been in for was DHLPP shot and Rabies.

Called my mother (wannabe nurse, G-ma was a nurse so she is fairly knowledgeable) she tells me to leave it and wait until he is ready fir his booster shots. She says it obviously doesn't bother him why mess with it. I don't think that I can do that. Boosters just might come early this year. Ugh. I have no money though and my farrier is coming on Monday so that leaves no extra cash. I guess I will live off of a Ramen for a couple of weeks, LOL

its not likely that the stitches would still be there. Usually there suppose to dissolve. Maybe its something else. Give your vet a call.

Exile and Dax, it could merely be the kind of stitches that don't dissolve... Like the kind that Kirby has on his *** right now. lol. I would say, yes, could easily happen.

But yeah, getting them removed could be an issue... If they have to make a cut to remove them. Hm.

Sorry, I'm no help.

Just off the phone with the vet. The tech said it could be possible that one of the stitches from the inside migrated out but not very likely. She said that it is possible that one could have been missed on removed, there are a lot of possibilities. Not all vets use dissolvable for neuters. Tanner is going in on Monday at 5:00pm.

GJ, well, sorry to hear that. I know you're worried about him, but I'm sure its something minor and will be taken care of on the visit Keep us posted and watch that spot for changes or anything

Greta, let us know how Tanner does. I bet its not a major ordeal.

As far as Ramen goes, my younger brother thats staying with me loves them!!! He mixes all kinds of stuff with them. He should write his own recipe book! lol

I love ramen! I mix my with eggs and cheese and ranch dressing or whatever else I have in the house. It is about the best meal that one can eat for under $0.50.

Great, sorry to hear about that, my dad had something similar (yep, I know he's not a dog but still). He had an op on his arm, they removed all the external stiches then about a year later this "string" started coming out from under his skin. Turned out it was internal stitches coming through. I guess it could happen to dogs as well.

Let us know how he gets on.
