Does this happen??

Simon is a true sweetie. From day one, he's let me do anything to him: pet his head, pick him up, give him a bath, take food/toys, he just has really latched on to me.

Touble is he still won't let anyone else touch him and is nervous around them. My sister and I live together, he sees her every day, she's walked him for me and spent time with just her, but he won't let her put his leash on and he mouths (not bite, really, just anxious mouthing, not vicious at all) when she takes his leash off. If this is pretty normal and you think he'll warm up, great!

I'm just worried that he's decided he has me and doesn't need or want anyone else. He is at least half BC plus cattle dog, I know they can be very one person dogs and also extremely intelligent, which is why I don't want him to get to thinking that he really doesn't need anyone by me.

So far, I've been having my sister, mom, and dad take him outside- after I put his leash on- my sister is going to start being the one to feed him.

I don't know if this is normal behavior for an undersocialized pup who always wanted to be a pet at heart, or the begining of a bigger problem. Is this something that will simply take time or does he need some encouragment?Sorry I take so long and ask so many questions; but hey! That idea of walking him as far as he's comfortable, sitting until he calms down, then going home, is working great, we've made it to the stop sign!

Zada is on a distinguished road
Nice to see you over here I'm also on the horse side, and I've seen your Simon before... sounds like he's making SOME progress !

A friend of mine had a dog that would ONLY be ok around their family for the longest time... to the extent that I hated going over there cause it was mean. Over time it settled in and such... they would get people that visited to give the dog a treat when they came in the door. I don't know a whole LOT about dogs - only from my personal experiences (hence why I came over here! LOL)... but I wish you luck! he's a cutie

Being a rescue it is normal for them to take a while to trust people. But you are doing the right thing by having others play, walk, and feed. He will soon learn that the other people are good too.

Thank you guys, I know I ask a lot of obvious questions... and you put up with them so well!

Last night Simon let my sister pet him, yay!! I know BCs and cattle dogs can be very one person- add that to his shyness and we're just asking for trouble. He took snacks from the vet today, and while I held him in my lap and covered his eyes, he was okay to get his rabies vac. Considering he's only been here a week and a half, I think he's catching on pretty well.

Zada- lucky for us, Simon isn't at all mean or nasty, he just gets out of the way and watches from a few feet away. He's a good dog at heart, he's just a chicken, lol.

Patience and keeping to your training and rehab plan.. It will all be ok and work out for everyone. Some turn around quickly, some not so quick but thankfully, they can and do!

Thank you for the encouragement

I am pleased to announce that Simon has now let my mom, dad, and sister pet him on and OFF leash He even played with my dad with one of his toys, so day 11 was a big one! We're making progress- much faster than I imagined we would, but I guess he is a smart kid after all.
