CraigsList and a rescue story...

I have always been very leary of CraigsList, but was bored tonight so Iwas looking around on the site.

I see an add for 2 Great Danes for adoption, one being a black female, one being a brindle male. Neither of them being altered.(posted Nov1)

This sparked my intrest because I read this add in the paper the other day.

"Lost Dogs...2 Dogs both Great Danes, 1 is large and brindle in color and male answers to Dane. The other is a younger female and could easily be mistaken as a Lab. She is black in color and has a small white patch on her chest and white on her feet. Her name is Daisy. Dogs were last seen at home in the AM on 11/1/2007. If you have seen them or know someone who has, please send our loved ones home. CALL ANYTIME"

So, I of course called, he did get them back, and its obviously determined they were stolen! We talked a bit, I told him I was involved in rescue, and he proceeded to tell me he was going to beeed on the females 2nd heat.
I very politely expressed my concerns with breeding, I strongly suggested he test the hips at the VERY least. I also told him to just take a look at Great Dane rescues to just see how many dogs are out there. I told him my original intent on breeding Clifford.
He did admit he has not done all of his research and he still needs to, but was VERY receptive to my knowledge and advice, even sincerely thanked me. I told him to keep my number and contact me with any questions.

So...not saying I have saved a litter, but I do think he will do his much needed research. Hopefully he will see the light like I did!

Great oppotunity for education. If nothing else maybe he will at least think about what you said and start to read a little

I hope the Craigs list posters are being questioned by the police for theft! That's flat out terrible of them... some people

Things happen for reason, I have no doubt... You were supposed to be combing through Craig'slist and see those ads to rescue the Danes as well as educate the Dane's owner..

Kudos to you for the reunion to their rightful place!
No matter what they decide, they are better Dane owners for receiving your information & have been educated in a few fashions I'd say!
