Here it comes...

Its outdoor, dog on chain season.

There is nothing I hate more then seeing a dog on a chain without shelter, food, and water.
Thats the way I got Roscoe, I am picking up a 2 year old Dobe today in the same situation, and I am heading out the door to evaluate the situation of a little Pit, who has been left for 3 weeks when the family moved away.

I am honestly a bit overwhelmed. The call about the Pit was from one of my former adopters. I know i cant take them all in, but I have a VERY hard time leaving them out there.
Dont know what to do with this Pit, I have NO room! 4 Dobermans, a Dane, and a Roscoe.

You have connections, you can call a pit recue to get him. Even the shelter is better than being abandoned, alone, cold, hungry. You'll find a way.

I cant take her to the shelter in the county in which I live now, they PTS all Pits.

I can however have my adopter take her to my old county shelter, its fairly nice, and they will not PTS.

Why do people do this?

I can't tell you why or how people do this, I can't wrap my mind around it.

Is there any action taken on the owners who leave their dogs chained with no food or water? I just cannot get over this, thank God for people like you.

UPDATE....

WOW, what a sad, sad case! She was all alone outside chained to her dog house, no food, no water. There were 2 other empty dog houses, and 3 empty kennels.

She had open sore on her bum, and was SKIN and BONES! She was terrified, but warmed up to us with food. We did take her down to the nice shelter. She is so malnourished, her bones are compromised. She is also PREGO!
The shelter was very nice, and everyone was petting her, her tail was wagging. I will worry about her, but she is in paradise compared to wher she was. I dont think she will be healthy enough to give birth, but I do know she is in good hands, and warm.

Sounds like you've given her more kindness than she's known in a while if not her whole life. I'm so proud to know you for doing everything you are able to. I know we can't save them all but we can often help in some way that does make a difference!

That poor thing I can't fathom what people are thinking when they leave animals like that! Do they think they will somehow find food being chained up?! Food doesn't grow on trees...well not in the sense I'm talking about lol

I'm glad that you were able to do something to give her some kindness and I bet she's thankful and will never forget you Hope she makes a full recovery!
