Question Great Dane w/dry skin

I have a 6 1/2 month old Great Dane puppy who is currently suffering from dry skin. I was reading on the internet that Corn Oil could help treat this so I bought some today. Does anyone know how much I should give him daily and how long I should give it to him. Or does anyone have any better suggestions on what to use. I have also been putting baby powder on his common stratch spots and it seems to soothe the itching alot. He doesn't itch until it wears off. I would really appreciate any help. Thanks

Fish oil also works.. but my groomer always has said you can use vegetable oil too. I think the dose would be about 1 teaspoon over the food once a day.

Just watch the stools.. oils can soften stool, so if it's too much decrease the dosing.

You can also try oatmeal shampoo baths.

You could also try a humidifier in your home. The cold season brings a lot of dry skin.

Fish oil or like canned mackeral or salmon works. However I have found a product called "Inflight" that is outstanding for coat and skin.
Here is the link.. A dog the size of a dane would get a good size teaspoon twice a day. An oil can back fire on your with loose stools.. This wont...

Also what food are you feeding? Could be a food allergy..

Hmm sounds like a good food. Remember in a rapid growth spurt ( which at his age he is..) other things have to take a back seat. Try one of the other supplements listed above..

Then get the canned mackaral. Its not expensive and the fish itself is very good for dogs.. Usually its near the canned meat in the grocery stores..
