Echo opinions
We just went to the heart clinic conducted by Texas A & M. I had scheduled Yaya for an Echo to be performed to clear her of congenital heart disease. Dr. Matt Miller from A & M examined her. After auscultation, he stated that she did not need an Echo as she did not have even the slightest hint of a murmur and her pulse was nice and strong. He told me the only reason you would need the echo is to rule out a congenital problem after detection of a murmur (even if it is soft). He filled out the paper work for the "all clear" by auscultation to send to the OFA. My question is does this sound correct. I havn't had time to go online and search, I only know that it seems to be the test everyone wants to see. She will be holtered in the next 4 months or so. Thanks in advance.

If you are happy with what you have then no need to go on,but if you want to be absolutly sure there is no problem and you can do the test it wouldn't hurt to do it.

I would think if any cardiologist doesn't think an echocardiogram is necessary, I would take their word for it. Most speciality vets want to do as much diagnostics as possible, even if unnecessary. So, if this vet says no.. i would take it as a good answer!
Be happy he isn't worried about it.

Yes-I did take the time now to look online a bit and it seems that this quite good-especially for a boxer-to have a Grade 0. The 24 hour ECG is next then I can say with confidence that she has a good heart. Thanks for the responses.

APBT AmStaff people want to see Echo, and penn hip over OFA hips. Just depends on the breed and what people are telling others to look for in a good breeder. |

IMO....I would take the vets word on the necissity of the ECHO. They are usually done only if there is a clinical finding such as CHF, murmers, irregularities in the heart beat.
The holter being done first, again in my opinion, makes sense. If there are premature ectopic beats, runs of irregular beats then an ECHO would be the next step. |

Personally being in the breed i would want to have the echo or holter done as well. Just for crossing I's and dotting T's.
There may not be a irregular beat in the mix, but you never know what else may be there. But that is your call. JMHO S |

Personally I would have just done the echo since being there...But see no need otherwise.
Great to here the good news!! Quote:
