Cadet needs a new foster home

Well I am going to call today and ask if Cadet can be placed in a new foster home. He actually went for one of my cats yesterday and got a hold of him...Lucius fought back and Cadet let go before any damage was done. Because I was under the influance of heavy medication my reaction time was very much slowed and by time I got up out of bed to grab him the whole thing was over.

I feel like a rotten person but my cats were there first and I cant have him trying to eat them. I have tried everything to accomidate both him and the cats but my cats are in constant terror, they cant leave the bedroom if Cadet it out, they are now being fed under my bed, I have to be on constant watch when he is out incase a cat is trying to come up from the basement...and with the kidney problems I am having now I just cant keep up with him.

Do what is the best for you and yr household!.
Not all dog work out and sometimes it's better to give him back before someone gets really hurt + you need to take care of yrself,1st and formost!.

sounds as if it is for the best...but think about all you have done for him....and also now you know for sure he cant be placed with cats so maybe that will prevent any future mishaps in a forever home....

I agree with everyone, it is best to find him a new Foster Home. Poor kitties, it is just not worth their health and well being.

Wow dd this thread get buried! HM, you are doing the right thing. You have had Cadet for quite a while and cannot curb his "desires." Some dogs can never get passed that stage. It took Uma almost a year before she stopped terroizing our own cat and we were on her every second of the day. Uma would go after the cat, our cat would jump up and to the mexican hat dance with her claws all IN Uma;s face but Uma didn't care. A whole YEAR this went on. Now she and the cat are fine, but let another cat walk by she wants to immediately eat them. Cadet should be recommended for a foster home or forever home without cats.

You gave Cadet over a MONTH of loving that he wouldn't have gotten in a shelter situation. Be proud of yourself.

These things happen, so don't get discouraged!
As everyone else has said, you have worked with Cadet for a while, gave him a loving home and helped him along his journey. Now at least you know he shouldn't be placed with cats, which is a great thing to learn now instead of when he gets placed in a forever home and it doesn't work out!
