The Prong Collar...

Ive been using the prong collar for a couple of weeks now. Works great! Oscar walks right by my side. But see the thing is, i bought it from a small Pet Valu shop that i dont think the clerk knew how to use it very well. Everywhere i go that gives advice about prong collar use says it should be firmly fitted on the very top part of the neck. I put it there in the begining but it rolls down slowly. I dont get it..if i take off another prong it will obviously stay there but arent the prongs suppose to be not touching his skin when hes not being corrected?

Any help is appreciated

The prong collar is made to wear high on the neck & very close...If is supposed to fit very snuggly against the dogs neck....It is okay if it is touching the skin,as long as you are not holding the leash so tight that it will cause damage...It doesn't bother them to have the prongs touching their skin, just don't constently pull & jerk it a lot or he will come to hate the collar...

Pittie is right, the prongs are supposed to touch the skin. If the prongs don't the collar is fitted to large. The prongs are not what hurts the dog, it it the prong pinching together. You have a quicker correction with a closer fitting collar.

Also, don't forget to take the collar off when inside. You don't want your poochie to get hung up on something in the house and hurt himself. My BC loves her Prong collar because she associates it with fun times, like walks, training and frizbee.

I have seen these where you can remove and add the prongs - does that sound about right? I want to get one - but Mads has a lot of growing to do.

You should be able to add/remove the links on any of them. You can also get with or without rubber tips.
