How Do I ?

Sadie goes in to get her stitches out on Tuesday . Once they are out , let me tell you , the girl is going to need a bath ! Here's the problem : other than being hosed down once a year , she's never had one . On top of it , my tub is the kind with the sliding shower doors , that don't come off . So , however in the world am I going to get this large animal into the tub (probably unwillingly , at that ) ? If I manage to accomplish that , how can I reach to wash both ends without trying to squeeze in with her ?! (One door is fixed in place and doesn't slide) . Nope , I don't have a hose in the basement , or anything like that . Still too cold to wash her outside . What do I do ?

Do you have a petsmart or petco near to you that has a DIY dog bath?

I have the same set up and have bathed Ariel. What I did is but her front paws in first, then her back. Then I went into the enclosure with her and closed the doors. It's amazing how much calmer they are if you are in there too. Then if you have a hand held shower attachments, you simply soak, lather, rinse repeat.

I would put some treats in there for her, that she can't reach without getting in. Once she's in, you should be fine. It's a good time to start working on the "turn" command... I've taught Bailey that one, and a few other dogs in my life. She should be able to turn around just fine in there and give you access to both ends/sides. Also, for a dog that big and hairy, a hand held showerhead is a must.

lowmaintwyf is on a distinguished road
We used to have a set up like that in our house a few years ago...I found it was easiest to put on my swim suit and climb in with her. Some people found it wierd, but kept my bathroom clean.

I agree with Dax i have also found that if I get in with my dogs when I bathe them they are alot calmer just be prepared to take a bath yourself.

hehe I have bethed Josie in our bath tub but we have a shower curtain. The onlything is is that she leans on the wall when you bathe her and wont move! I would just take her to the vet and just tell them you just need a regurlar bath. That way you dont pay to much!
