Dog Anatomy Quiz!

Thought you guys would enjoy this... I'll post the answers in a couple of days (and my score ). Seeing as you're above average for dog skills I won't give you the multiple choice options! Nanner nanner! Have fun!

You are now staring at a dog skeleton and notice the retroarticular foramen and hypoglossal canal. Where the heck are they?

Oh no! Your dog has developed sialocele! Where's the trouble?

You have a brachycephalic dog. It may have trouble with what normal function?

Your dog has GVD. What organ is affected?

Your dog was bitten on the pinna. What hurts?

Your dog broke his crus. What hurts?

What is the gemellus?

Can dogs get tonsillitis?

Is the jugular vein a good place to take a blood sample?

What bone connects directly with the scapula?

retroarticular foramen and the hypoglossal canal are in the head/brain area of the dog. What they are I don't know.

A sialocele is a cyst on the salivary gland.

brachycephalic dog is one that has disturbances breathing due to the structure of the dog's nose. i.e. pugs, english bulldogs

GVD is bloat, which affects the stomach.

If a dog is bitten on the pinna, I am sure that his ear hurts.

A dog with a broken crus really can't walk all that well. Poor leg is broken.

Gemellus is a muscle in the dog's hip area

Yes, dogs can get tonsillitis.

The jugular is a great place to get blood if the dog cooperates.

Scapula connects to the humerus as does with humans.

The only thing I want to add.. since Greta got them all right -- it's GDV, not GVD.

Gastro-dilatation volvulus, and this was a trick question. Cause it also usually involves the spleen.

Well...I guess I need to brush up on my doggie anatomy! lol
I knew that brachycephalic affects breathing, that the jugular is a great place to get blood, and that they could get tonsillitis...but that's it!

Why can't they just use normal terms for goodness sakes?!

Brachiocephalic actually refers to a flatter, squatter skull - as opposed too a doliocephalic (collie or bozoi) and a Mesocephalic (GSD)...though the Brachiocephalic skull is often times linked with breakthing problems, it isnt the breathing problems themselves

It's brachy - with the prefix "brachy" meaning "short"; not brachio like a brachiosaurus. LOL

Actually "Brachio" as a prefix in medicine would refer to your forearm, or upper-arm... So Brachiocephalic would mean that the dog's skull is shaped like an arm. Hahaha.
