Doxie is moulting.

Thjis year for some reason it seems like Doxie is moulting, like he's losing his winter hair. I've been brushing him but it seems like I can pull it out. I wonder why he's losing his winter hair when winter's just starting

Is it colder than normal? Is your house colder than normal?

The weather could be the problem and or the thrmostat in your house being warmer than normal. I don't mean to sound macabre, but it can also be from stress. Doxie has lost Susie and then Jill in a very short period of time. Stress does terrible things to we as humans, it can also do terrible things to animals too.

I have to agree with what Fair has just said...

Stress is probably the problem...

They react to stress similar to the way we do. Sounds like this could be the problem.

Hi, please forgive all the questions but I'm new so I don't know anything about your boy, so to make an educated guess I sorta need to ask .

I see from the other posts that he's lost family, so absolutely that could cause excessive shedding from stress.

Are there any other problems he's exhibiting... excessive chewing, licking or scratching? Itchy skin, fever?
Have you changed food, started meds or health additives?
Did he do this last winter?
Which coat type is he? Smooth/Long/Wire, it would make a difference by coat...smooth losing would be something to really talk to your vet about, the longs/wires it could be just the change from outside (windows open, dashing about the year round) to winter indoor air...but that could also cause a smooth to drop *some* coat if he's a new addition.

It could also be allergies (a closed up winter house) ... if it continues I'd surely suggest taking him to vet.

Oh and Hi, I'm CJ - Proud Staff member to Wu (Princess Evil Wu) and Hartley (The Hartman) my two mini wire-dachshund owners
