New Fur Family Member Coming....

Our rescue network has a new member. Seems there's a wonderful woman in Thailand who rescues street dogs, takes care of their every medical need and everything else. She sends some of these dogs abroad covering expenses herself. All she asks for is an occasional update to let her rescue know that the pup is doing great and that they made a good decision sending them abroad.

While I initially think, we need to help those in our own backyard first, a certain pup presented itself and I helped to have his come over to be adopted by my son's family. Doug has always loved bulldogs and it's been his first choice for a dog.

He's a bulldog and the kids are renaming James to Tai. He's a year old. He was stuck under a bridge in Thailand for a month while people threw food down to him. He was finally rescued and brought into foster care. He's 38 lbs, doing great and will be landing here soon on Jan 8th.
I'll get better pix but for now, this is what I have of him...

I'm acting as receipient of him but he'll only be with me long enough to check him out, take some photos and bring him to meet my Son, DIL (sasha_babe), the grandkids and (crossing finger) make sure all is well with him and their 14 month old Bella!
I see a great union ahead!

Send me some of what you've got! I need to space a bit! I'm stressing a little with "back to work tomorrow" looming over my head today

Teresa- man you are like the energized bunny commercials.. Keep going and going.. lol.. Are you feeling empty nest syndrone? lol.
I am glad you have a new member but I am a little concerned about maybe a language barrier. I have gotton dogs before that had another language and it did take longer for the dogs to settle in and feel like home. Femka is the most recent prime example. ( Femka had either dutch or celtic language). She learned " cookie, dinner, outside" pretty quick but the rest took a while..

I'm not too worries as he's only a year old and afterall, dogs do usually learn pretty quickly, they don't speak english either.
If he were older, I'd say it would probably take longer. I don't feel any different about the language barrier than I do getting in a year old that can't walk nice on a leash. We have discussed it though, wondering if some of our common expressions might sound like something else to him LOL!

How long did it take Femka to adjust?

I would say totally about 4-6 months. Some of this was baggage from before and in some ways it helped as all the words had positive associations from day one. The odd thing was she would try to understand us, but someone else coming in with same language but different voice threw her off. To be honest about it- Zubin arrived about 5 months later but had a happy puppy attitude and he seemed to be the ice breaker taking the progress we had gotton. She was literally learning with him in many ways.

Have you got some extra batteries? Mine are about dry! LOL

No, not empty nest but it's definitaly quieter and calmer here right now. Remember, there are still 16 dogs/puppies here. 1 more is leaving today so 15 after today.
I'm always keeping an eye out with our rescue network for good matches for good families that we don't that "their" good match in our rescue.

My Idaho adopters sprung a dog out of doggie jail to bring to a Boxer rescue here in my town that was a boxer mix, that they were trying to get a transport line going from there to here. My family, or should I say Ariel's family, just happened to live where this dog was and was going to be here Sunday to bring her home, so....... they brought him along for the Boxer rescue. They in turn, paid 1/2 of her adoption for the kindness and assist!
I helped someone without doing anything but writing a couple of emails is all!

Bella, their current pup, may also help then as she's still only 14 months old? She's super friendly too!
