Wet Smelly Puppy

Our 6 month old Schnoodle loves to go for walks, but always comes home smelling of that awful wet dog smell. It's very damp and humid where we live and my house is starting to smell as well! Is there a product that would help alleviate this smell? I've tried using a dog grooming spray on him, but I wonder if it is good for his coat or skin?

Most grooming sprays are fine, but check to see if they have alcohol in them, this would be drying to the skin. I love Lambert Kay's Fresh n Clean. Baby wipes work nice as well as fabric softner mixed with water. That would probably help with your pups coat. Acts like a conditioner and will make grooming easier.

The weird thing about that is that schnoodles shouldn't smell. Both poodles and schnauzers are no to low dander, and not shedding, so the smell shouldn't be there.

Do you think it might be a weird bodily reaction?

Thank you, I will definitely try your tips! The fabric softner is one I definitely would not have thought of. I'm not sure why he smells, since we deliberately chose a Schnoodle due to the low dander/odor factor. This is our first dog and we're not very knowledgeable yet.

I had a schnauzer growing up. He would stink. Every dog is going to smell like their environment sooner or later if they are not continuosly bathed, which I don't recommend. We lived across for a corn field that would be spread with manure. I swear the dog would look at the field on our walk and he would stink for a week. If it has been particularly wet or snowy where you are odors are inevitable.

I think a wet dog is always going to smell like wet dog but I don't think your house has to.

I would make sure to dry him off with a towel before letting him in. Clean the smelly areas (around mouth, bum, feet). Use things like baking soda sprinkled on your carpet or fabreeze kind of stuff. The dog sprays won't hurt him if applied as per the directions but I haven't found them to be very lasting.

Kind of bouncing around here... but there are some dogs... Poodles... Portugese Water... Cotons of course no dander, and therefore no dog smell when wet. Smells like water. Schauzers are low dander.

That's why I had a question mark over health

Yea. The Poodle and Portugese Water Dog I knew... Always stunk when they were wet.
