Question clipping nails on pregnant chi???Help!

http://www.prodoggroomingsupplies.co...ead.php?t=4333Sadie [as most of u know] is pregnant, and we expect puppies within the next few weeks. Her nails grow like wildfire, and she makes such a big fuss about them being clipped that she really gets quite stressed out!I clipped her nails 2 1/2 weeks ago,but the are so bad and need doing again. But i'm afraid of hurting the puppies as she stuggles,or simply just overly stressing her.[she gets VERY worked up about it,as she is a very sensitive dog]

Should i clip them [despite her wails, and pregnant state] or should i suffer it out and just wait till the puppies are born?

at this link u can see how pregnant she is,and how badly her nails need doing!!!

Wait till the pups are born, don't want to stress her out in any way, especially if those pups are gonna come early.

If they come too early, as you may already know, the bones don't start to develop until the last 2 weeks, also the lungs etc. Too early and they will all die.
Keep her nice and calm.
You can clip nails when the pups are out, it won't matter to her then.

So relieved to hear u say that Ellie! That is EXACTLY what i'm going to do.Our vet, thought we should go ahead and clip them, but my mom and i didn't feel comfortable with that, after all,it is NOT to late for her to abort the puppies because of stress,or cause disformaties!!!What do vets know about breeding anyway?

Lots of opinions about vets, trouble is they sometimes just don't have all the practical experience up their sleeves, so they go by the text book, which as I said in your other thread, cannot always be followed to the rule. Adding to this though, you can't go past your vets when you really need them, but for something like this little problem..

You know Sadie best, just like I know mine, why upset a pregnant dog when you don't have to. I certainly wouldn't.

Is she just as bad if you try to file them down? Maybe you could try that if they get too bad, but really as long as they don't curl into the paws or make walking uncomfortable they will be fine.
