"I would but..."

This bugs me to no end. When I was working at my old job, I worked as an adoptions advocade. I kept a list of rescues & shelters phone numbers in my pocket for all the people wondering why we didn't sell designer mixes in our store. Then they'd ask me if I know where they sell puppies. I would give them my list. And I always heard "Oh, I would, but wouldn't have a small dog there."

I have one thing to say: You're not looking hard enough. We have two major (and many smaller) small breed rescues in BC that ALWAYS have small dogs. Shih-tzus and pomeranians have a big turn over rate here.

Or you are LYING. Because they're there- and they do have little dogs- and you are NOT scooping them up. If they don't want a rescue dog, that's fine, but don't pretend you do!

The following dogs were listed on Craigslist as free to a good home or in shelters or rescues today.
Three 2-year old chihuahuas, a 3-year old designer mix, a 7-month old miniature dachshund, a 5-year-old beagle.

The following dogs are being housed by a branch of the SPCA
6 yr old shih-tzu

3 yr old pekingese mix

JRT Mix

Designer Terrier mix

Miniature Poodle

There are so many more too.

If I could I would LOVE to take them all. they all look so sweet.
I totally agree it horable (sp) that people think they can only get a "good dog" from a breeder or worse a pet store.
there are so many loving kind wonderful dog's in rescue it's a shame people aren't more open minded and at least go see or talk to there local rescue group.

Yep I am tired of people assumiong you can't get good dogs from teh shelters.

My cousins got two rat terriers. Both from the pet store in the mall. $600 each. So far one has had to have a couple surgeries due to neck and leg problems. The other one has had one surgery for a leg problem and is a biter and very anti social dog.

My rat terrier Gracie is a lovely dog who has had no major problems yet but is going through the adolescent anti trusting of strangers phase. She was 7 months old when I got her, adopted her from Cass County shelter in Michigan. Cost $25.

But with Gracie i have helped open the rest of my families eyes to the great dogs that are in the shelters.

Heres my little shelter pooch

Ahhh that little Dach is so cute - I'd take him/her except for the quarantine issues - which really blow. Will the Dachshund clubs not help?
