sad story

Don't know if you can see the X-ray or not, but one of the rescues dogs had a bum leg....this is from the rescue blog

This is Ruthie's xrays from earlier this week. Before we had the x-rays done we had thought she was hit by a car, or something like that. But no- see the bright pieces. Those are bullet fragments. Nice Eh?

We are taking Ruthie to a specialist in Calgary to have her leg amputated from the elbow down. Despite the appearance of a damaged shoulder it is not too bad at all so once the leg is gone Ruthie will be more comfortable. She is not in any pain anymore- but the leg is a hinderance- it gets in her way and she sometimes trips over it.

Ruthie has made an amazing turn around in the last month or so- she is outgoing, playful and likes people. It amazes me that dogs are so forgiving.

Poor baby. They are amazing creatures, they hold no grudge. I remember a puppy I was going to adopt that was going to have his little leg amputated, so many people were in line to adopt this guy! Fortunately this does not deter people from wanting to adopt a loving sweet dog.

People at the shelter I worked at always seemed to go for the special needs dogs (ones that were missing a foot or had a deformed leg or something). We had this one dog with a deformed leg, I showed him to 3 different families in a 2 hr shift.

Sometimes, ok, most of the time, the special need dogs get more applicants than a healthy middle aged dog. I think they tug at the human heartstrings and our desire to help those who really need taken care of to make up for those who didn't help them......

Aww poor thing But at least her new life will be a good one!
We had a cat come in once that the people said fell from a tree...when xrays were taken it was apparent that it was shot with a bb gun...
