There's a lot of dogs that don't have hind dew claws to begin with. The ones that do have hind dew claws a lot of time depends on the country and the breeder. I'm not sure of any specific ones that have hind dew claws that are left.

Hind dew claws are not common, just because a dog has them doesn't mean they have to be removed. It will depend on whether they are being a problem or not.

The operation in an older animal can be quite painful and healing slow. I would only remove them if they are constantly being caught, bleeding or sore.

Question

Thank you for your comments. Does anyone know if there are any breed standards (for the show ring) where hind dew claws are expected to be seen on certain breeds?

Just type in the exact question...easiest way, rather than looking up the breed standards in all my VCA monthlies.
