First Oso now Uma

The same day I got Oso back from the vet with his bandaged head was the same night Uma seemed to have hurt herself. I don't know what she did or how she did it but is now favoring her right front let and is hobbling a bit on her left. I have felt, poked, and prodded and can find nothing wrong. It is not swollen nor bloody. I even checked inbetween her pads and can find nothing yet when I let her outside the dog is still running like the wind, yet when she comes in she is hobbling. The only thing I can think of is that she twisted it some how. Would the lef swell if it were sprained?....and of course the vet is not opened until Tuesday. Even the new vet we took Oso to see yesterday will be closed until Tuesday. She is not crying or wincing at all. Any guesses as to what is is or what I can do?

Maybe she is having sympathy pains for Zubin? ( same leg in him too). Without knowing if it is a impact type of injury ( in other words she ran into something, or fell) I can offer what we were told with zubin. If she can extend it- this includes like if she is laying down fully stretch it, bending it as well, but just sensitive with weight bearing, more than likely she pulled a muscle in the elbow. If when you bend it back towards her shoulder, and it hurts, she could have pulled a shoulder muscle. If when she tries to walk, the leg appears to extend until the weight actually shifts- it is probably the elbow. ( wish I could show you what I mean- but my camera died..)
If it is muscular your vet will probably tell you to give something like rimadryl for pain, and an anti- inflamatory.
As far as going to the vet, in our case there was no impact injury. I saw what happened. So when I called the vet they said that to watch for any improvement after resting for a while. He is still lame, but there is improvement. The basics of restricting activities- avoid stairs, or play etc, there was improvement in the first 12 hours ( overnight).
Not knowing if it was a impact or tramatic injury, I would probably have the vet take a look especially considering her age. However- even if it was a impact fracture, rest and meds are probably the protocal here. Considering you can not see the vet until tuesday, just keep an eye on her and control her activities. Can you at least call them and leave a message for the pager so they can tell you what to give for an anti inflamatory?

I know with my own furballs, they always join together in sending me to the vet with them!
Nothing for months or years but watch out, one comes down with something, something else weird will happen to another right after!
Darn fur balls anyway! I keep telling them to space out those out of the norm Vet visits but they just don't listen!

OMG! This does not sound too serious. My Mel is a bit clumsy and he often steps wrong or slides on the tile floor ending up hurting himself. Did you check her shoulder? This has happened to him, he will limp around the house, but when he gets outside, he seems to forget about it. Could be a sore muscle or muscle spasm.

Sorry I did not get back to anyone sooner. Today Uma is absolutely FINE! After checking her out physically several times I thought my best bet was to go with arnica . Four tablets three times a day and limit her activites. Today this dog is like the same old Uma...(old Uma??? hahaha). No favoring of the leg, no limping, no nothing. She must have just twisted it a certain way. I swear this dog is giving me more grey haris then I deserve!....but I am so relieved that she is back to normal. Thanks BM, Teresa, and Ali for all your help.

I am glad she back to 'her old self'.. Zubin is still gimpy but getting better. Maybe I will try some of that. Zubin goes from doing better to doing something stupid.. Honestly- its like trying to watch a very big toddler.. lol

I'm glad Uma is ok. It seems they're just like kids, once something happens to one, something else happens to the other. It even happens with Doxie and Sambo. Doxie will be trotting along and all of the sudden kind of trip, then he limps around for awhile. He's like me, I always trip over my own feet!

Aww, glad Uma didn't have anything wrong and is back to her full time job as the Umanator.

But... *hemhem* you can give her a hug from me anyways!
