Welcome to the site. I'm sorry you had to break a leg to find us. I love the pictures of your dogs.

I hope to get to know you and your pets much better while you lounge around in front of the computer (I'm just teasing & envious).

Welcome again.

That sounds very painful.. maybe I won't be envious of all your home time after all. LOL. Dogs are great for pain relief as long as they don't stick feet or body parts on the owwies.

Doxie, sorry to hear about your leg. Umm im terrified to cut my dogs nails. When he was a pup i cut a little too far and minorly cut a vein and the pitch of the yelp was too much. Im too scared to try it again. I just let them grow and the vet cuts them. He only bled like a drop beacuse i just minorly cut it but still, id like to be able to cut them myself. Hes a pretty big dog so getting him professionally groomed isnt in my best interest. Any advice?

I have a long haired dog that is awful to groom! I have to tie her to the horses' hitching post because she won't stay still! She's getting better, but when I try to do her tail I have to let go of her belly and she runs to the end of the lead. Sometimes she gets my hand in her mouth. It doesn't seem as if she is doing this to bite me, it's kind of like a warning that I better stop brushing her. I smack her nose when she does and say NO and keep brushing her. I've even jokingly????? said I was going to tie her hips to the other side of the hitching post to keep her from moving! Do you think that would be bad???? (I don't know if I ever would do it, I can't think that it sounds very safe, but she gets me so irritated sometimes)!

My other two dogs on the other hand love to be brushed!!! They push each other out of the way for their turns! I would love if my long haired one would be like this, cause she's the one that really needs the brushing. Right now, the way she is, I find it an awful chore that I avoid! Then she gets matts and I have to cut them out!

Actually the other day she actually let me brush the hair behind her ears without tying her, so maybe she's coming around? I think whoever had her before I did, kept her tied in their backyard. She didn't know anything when I got her! Not even how to walk on a leash and she was 1 1/2 yrs!!!!!!

We would like to groom our 6 month old Schnoodle ourselves, but we are unsure of what type of clipper to purchase. I've heard that Wahl and Oster are good, but how do you know which type of model to buy? There are so many to choose from and we want something that will do a good job and last.

I have used both, I found the oster's got a little hot, but that was for commercial uses, the Walh's were a much smoother running, less noisy clipper, that worked well.

If your dog is not used to being groomed/clipped I would go to the sticky at the top of this forum and look at grooming tips and know how, it will give you the basics on getting started for the beginner.

Appylvr, I would go back to basics too, the grabbing of your hand but not biting is from fear, your dog doesn't want to hurt you, but doesn't like what you are doing.

It can be a long arduous task to get a frightened dog used to being groomed, as basically your first grooming attempts can either make or mar the dog right from the beginning.

You need a very patient understanding groomer to get this dog to come round. It takes time. Go to the same place I have advised bomber, and start all over.
