Dermoids

I am looking at a puppy and he has had a dermoid removed. He has the right temperament and all just I don't know anything about dermoids. Anyone have any advice? I talked to the founder of the psychiatric service dog society and we talked for a while. She uses a Rhodesian Ridgeback. I've done research on the breed and have been waiting on the right litter. Well mr.right has come but I don't know if I should get him because I don't exactly what could happen because of his dermoid.

If you want a service dog I do not understand why if there is a medical problem the dog would be accepted. While this is a rare condition- but still. There could be further problems.. Colobomas are a hole in the eyesite.. Like a blank space. Since this condition is associated with that, no - I do not see this as a service dog..

If you are talking about dermoid sinus then it can be inherited condition in the Rhodesian Ridgeback. Affected dogs should have surgery & not be bred from.

It depends on how bad it is and how effective the surgery was as to the long-term prognosis.

Of course this could be the wrong type of dermoid!!!!

No BabyE, you were right. She just called me back and cleared up the confusion. She just told me it was a dermoid. She gave me the number of the vet so I'll call him on Monday. She said he'll explain more. She said he should be fine and it shouldn't scar. I'm doing more research on it right now.

But which one?? This condition could be several things. And each has possible side effects affecting being a service dog..

I am sorry but you are looking for a service dog. The dog needs to have no health issues- .. ( past or present as the dog works for a living..)
