Sadie,won't drink water!!!!

So Sadie has ten days left, before puppies are due.Everything seems normal, but me [being the worry wart i am when it comes to my babies] have a concern, and as i believe rightfully so.

Sadie [who normaly drinks alot],drinks hardly ANY water.Sometimes she will go a day without drinking at all.I know that right now it is very important she is getting fluids, and i think i may have to result to syringe water to her.

I am also giving her a little milk with raw egg.

So what do u think?Syringe?I started syringe yeserday!

Dogluvin - if I were you I would phone your vet's office and get thier opinion. Your dog is a small breed and more prone to problems. They might also suggest moisture be added to the food or other suggestions.

Check her gums for discoloration from dehydration as well as her stool. Both show obvious signs when dehydrations sets in. And of course do what Dax said, ring the vet for their opinion.

The vet said to give her the egg and milk! He said she should be drinking water to though.

She is also getting canned food [as during her pregnancy she is a picky bicky]

I would add some warm water (at least a couple of tablespoons) to the canned food to increase the water content.

I don't know your dog or how stressed she'd be if you forced water into her mouth so I can't comment. Have you tried different temperature of water? Pregnant females can be so picky LOL.

Maybe you could interest her in some un-salted strained broth (made from marrow bones, veggies).

Soon-to-be-Mom is on a distinguished road
She needs fulids,so you need to get bugging her to drink. The putting water in her food is a wonderful idea! I'm totally with that idea. The egg and the milk works. Keep doing that. Also, what you can do is go to a store or your local vets office and buy that puppy milk, put it in a bowl, (with water mixed with it)and have her drink that. I've got some questions for you: What kind of dog is Sadie? Have you bred dogs before? Do you own the male? Is it a wanted preg.? What kind of dog food are you feeding her? I sugest the pregnany food or puppy food, so she gets all the nutrients she needs.

Did you get her to drink some broth? I was thinking she might be holding out for some crushed ice. Any improvement today?
