Greyhound skin...
My heart was taken by the greyhounds at the pet expo.
There is one thing that worrys me about owning them though. And thats there thin skin. I am worried that skye trying to play (or even levi) would hurt them bad cause of there thin skin. Has anyone had other dogs with greyhounds or experience with them and there skin? This is the only issue and its not huge but I am just a little worried about it.

A friend of mine has greys and whippets. The skin is thinner with these breeds. Accidents are rare, but then again- they are playing with other sighthounds ( ie plays the same). How rough are we talking in play? ( ie rough neck biting etc?). I would think the grey would let someone know pretty quick- "thats too rough"..

I have had other dogs with a greyhound and never had a problem. They played and played rough. Be prepared to deal with it, but I wouldn't worry.
I never had to settle them down. But they aren't herders, so... I don't think I'd be concerned.

I would not worry about it. Greyhouds are tough many times tougher than they appear to be.
You need to watch some greyhounds play, their "thin skin" will no longer be a concern Actually "happy tail" is a much bigger issue |

I had other dogs with my greyhounds, and NEVER had a problem... If that is the issue about holding you back on a greyhound, I wouldn't let that bother you at all... You just have to be careful not to use certain flea shampoos, flea collars, etc, and know that what you use on their skin absorbs rapidly, so be careful... AND the anesthesia, they react to less than a different breed, but other than that, they are quite normal....

They do have tissue paper like skin.. lacerations are very prevalent in these breeds. I have seen a dog come in that was hit by a frisbee and lacerated it's front leg/shoulder.
I'm not sure that they would be that sensitive with rough housing, but they do seem to cut themselves all the time and easily. |

Most greys don't even like rough and tumble games. Greyhounds get along so well with other dogs the chance of a scuffle is pretty rare, but if one does occur, it can be quite dangerous for the grey. Your dogs have lived in a household together for quite a while now, so I wouldn't be concerned.
Unless your current dogs grab the skin a lot... It's mostly herding breeds that make problems; the grey runs, herder nips and breaks the greys skin. |

See I think if it is a older calm female and is quite my dogs wont care and wont bug it. So no problems.
If they get playing to rough skye will kind of nip but he is stopping that already. It is ussually levis fault too. I really dont think it will be a huge problem but was just curious. |
