basenji fan

Hi! I'm new to this site. I am looking into getting a Basenji. I have 2 dogs now and a 4 year old. We also have fenced in backyard. I know they need their energy. Not sure if I want a puppy, don't want to housebreak!, or someone that needs a home thru adoption. Thanks for the info.!

I would look at your local rescues & humane society first. Sometimes you get lucky and the purebreed you are looking for is there. Or someone you needed that you didn't even know you were looking for.

Actually I got my last dog there, Lucy. She is awesome and my other childhood dog came from the SPCA too. I think that's why I lloked at the Basenji Rescue site first!

Yeah, the hard part is the last hurdle, my husband. He's starting to bend thought!

I have a hubby like that too. Whining, begging and nagging for 4 years finally had the desired effect. As Urkel would say "I'm wearing you down baby.." LOL

I found a basenji a couple of weeks ago, wandering in the middle of a busy intersection. I took her home and kept her for several days, and she was a fantastic little dog. BUT, 'Senjis are not for everyone. They're cute but they are all sighthound, very drivey and not too responsive. She would have been a handful to train, had I kept her.

Outside of them being sighthounds with a HORRIBLE sounding scream in place of a bark, I don't know too much about them. "Foxy" was a nice little dog, very low maintenance, but she just didn't do it for me.. I like a dog that will work for you, not the other way around.
