PJ had surgery

On monday PJ had surgery on her ACL. She's been doing very well about staying on her blanket in her spot with not much movement except for going potty outside. I have to come up with creative ways to get her to take her antibiotics. I can usually get her to take her pain pill by putting it in her mouth and lifting her head up and she swallows. I do hope she heals well and gets back to being better. I"m hoping for at least another 5 years from her. I hope, but she's a big dog and who knows how long she'll live.

Solsalia, sorry PJ had to even have surgery, but it sounds like your dog is doing well so far!

As for taking her antibiotics...have you heard of "Pill Pockets" ? they are chicken flavored (made with real chicken) and are circular/tubed shape...you stick the pill inside it and the dog snarfs up the "treat", pill and all!

I got mine I think at Petco or Petsmart, but perhaps if you Google it, you'll find other places that carry it. I've found it works wonders (and I have a rescued Chihuahua who was terribly traumatized from her puppy mill experience, so I understand about dogs who won't take meds!)...maybe this would help you?

Here's the main URL for Pill Pockets:

Sending healing thoughts to your dog, and good wishes for you as Dog Mom helping PJ to heal quickly!

I use one of 3 things to get pills into a dog.
1) Peanut butter
2) cheese, it molds well
3) make a pill pocket out of a piece of hot dog. Cut a chunk and slit the middle, shove the pill in and wala.. no more pill.
Hoping for a speedy recovery and sucess with the meds!

lol, leave it up to my husband to find the play on words!

thanks for your info. I need to go to the store to get some chocolate!!!! I mean for me... and the hubby, he likes his chocolate milk at night, plus get some hotdogs for the dog. Are there any 'hot'dogs around. It's late for us. The silliness won't stop. Must be tired.

PJ seems to be moving around better and not in as much pain since the first day of surgery. She's still being a good girl and staying on her blanket. She's becoming bored out of her mind though. Trips to go potty are a luxury now for her. I'm thankful she's doing so well as I have 4 kids under 4 that keep me running all over.

I would always used cold peanut butter from the fridge. You can goop it and form it like modeling clay!

Hey! Peanut butter! Why didn't I think of that! GREAT idea and I'll make a note for the future...

Solsalia, with four kids under 4, the hubby and the recouperating dog, maybe YOU'll need a pill???

Just joshing! Hang in there!
