Medication Mistake
Both of my dogs are on daily medication. Mel takes Lasix, Enalapril and Pimobendan for heart disease and Buddy takes Phenobarbitol for seizures. I have all medication bottles labeled clearly to distinguish them, but I am so worried I am going to give the wrong medication to one of them! Today I caught myself before I put Buddy's pheno in Mel's food
I feel like such a bad mom I am worried someday I will actually do this. I am sure 15 mg of Pheno will not phase Mel, but I worry if Buddy accidentally gets one of Mel's meds. Does anyone know what would happen if God forbid, this happens?

Ali, there are pill dispensers by day of week. Get on in different colors for the furkin; say a red one for Mel and a blue one for Buddy (just as an example)
You can then load each slot with the dog's daily allotment of meds and never have to worry. I have to do this for myself, I have one set (green) for morning and one set (pink) for night. This way I know I've taken my meds for the day and don't overdose. As an example:

If they each have a specific food bowl, you can put the pills into that specific bowl at night. The bowls would have to be specific for each in order for this to possibly be a resolution.

If your dog has seizures I know for sure you don't want to put the Lasix in her bowl by mistake. But keeping their bottles in their own bowls sounds like a great idea.

I don't even give my dogs regular medication, and being as air-headed as I am, it's easy for me to dump the wrong thing in the wrong bowl. I frequently almost gave Kirby Holly's puppy food when they were eating different formulas. And it had nothing to do with remembering whose was which, it was just in my head one dog gets this, one dog gets that, and there you go.
I don't know what pilling your dogs is like, but should there be any need for medication, I always make a point of directly dispensing the pills into the dogs mouths- NOT into their bowls. (Usually shaped grated cheddar around each pill.) That way with slob dogs like Holly you can make sure they're not spilling it on the floor and missing it, or picky dog tosses out, and gluttonous dog picks it up. Even when it was just Kirby, I always pilled him directly, didn't count on it to make it in with everything else.

Sometimes you are just not concentrating and it happens. I try to be super conscious as I am giving the pills. It may be easier to give the pills with a little peanut butter, thanks.

I'd even go to the extreem of saying out loud which dog and which medication as you are giving it. You'd catch yourself if you mixed them up. I'd also give individually in cheese or peanut butter.

I also give it with peanut butter
maybe you could have colored bowls for each one so they are matching to the pill dispenser |
