Arrow 12Year Old Great Dane!

I got an email the other day from my Great Dane Rescue friend, she told me about a 12 year old fawn male left by his owner at the Humane Society. The guy had been evicted and could not find anywhere to take the dog.

I thought, if no one would take him that I would. Well, Joyce found a home for Duke, and I got to meet him yesterday on his way to his new home. I could not believe how GOOD this dog looked, what a BIG GOOFY dog, there is no way he acted 12, he acted about 5 or 6.
He was a cute fawn boy with natural ears. He is still intact. His teeth are pretty bad, but otherwise he looked VERY healthy! He is 109 pounds, a little on the thin side. I was amazed at how good he looked, and his energy level.

I am sure his owner was crushed, but Duke has a new home now.

Thats great he got a new home. I'm sure he owner was upset too. And he did only what he could think of doing for his pal, hoping he would find a grea new home. Glad he did.

That's so sad. I almost took in a dane last year that was 10 or 11, can't remember now. Same story - guy was moving, had nowhere to take the dog...

Bless the person who took him in. I hope Duke has a couple good years left in him.

I cant even explain his energy level, I am SURE he has a few good years left.

If it wasn't for his gray and his teeth, I would have said he was 5.

So sad the guy had to give him up But Wow, how wonderful that someone took this guy into their heart and gave him a new place to live out his time!

I can't imagine having to give up a beloved companion after that long - so thrilled his story ended well.

Did the owner say for sure he was 12, or is it a guess?

Danes grey VERY early, it's not uncommon for a fawn to be fully greyed by 3-4 years of age. And crappy food can cause teeth to be awful, as well as heredity. My first dane had 3 dentals before he was even three years of age. They were that bad. (He ate Iams. I knew no better back then).

Amazing! A 12 year old Dane with such pep! Hope he has a good few years left with his new family - although I can't imagine the adjustment will be easy for him.
