I love american and french bulldogs but not british bulldogs - they would all be destroyed on humane grounds if i had my way. Its awful the health problems they have because of the way people have bred them over the years.

So, I am getting a beagle/bulldog (british) mixed puppy. Do you think it will have less health problems since it is mixed? It won't have many wrinkles, and the joints will be somewhat different. The mother was a beagle, father being bulldog of course. I've heard so many good things on bullies, but then I hear bad. =/

a mix will have far fewer health problems because they will hopefully be a lot less brachycephalic (short nosed) a typical english bulldog has so little nose it has the worst breathing problems on the entire dog world and also has problems with a deformed soft palate for the same reason and some joint problems. Couple that with the excessive wieght people like them to carry and you have a real problem. Keep your dog slim and fit and i'm sure she will be fine.

brittania - the pics of your dogs dont look excessively brachycephalic, they remind me more of the french bulldog than the english. I dont agree with breeding any dog so that it has the shortest nose possible and i think breed standards need to be changed in several breeds for welfare reasons.
