My dog has Pancreatitis...*UPDATED*

So Osita is almost 13 years old and otherwise very healthy however she just stopped eating a few days ago so i tried giving her a variety of food it didnt really work, so i brought her to the vet last night and thank god because i got her there just in time. Her Pancreatitis is pretty bad and her kidneys levels were elevated and on their way out, so now she will have to stay 3 whole days and nights (i thought i could take her home but i cant) at the vets office hooked up to fluids. She will be fasted for those 3 days too and then once her pancreas is back to normal and her body is functionning right again she will be put on a special diet and all will be well.

What a tramatic experience though. Osita is like my child i have had her since i 7 years old. She has always been there and thank god i dont have to know just yet what it will be like without her.

Has anyone dealt with pancreatitis before? Any hints, suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

My dog had a mild pancreatitis. We just treated by feeding her Hill's W/D canned food (because they need a low fat diet). She was also given IV fluids, sucralfate and famotidine (oral tablets) to help with her vomiting.

I don't have much advice because her pancreatitis was related to her diagnosis of her Addison's, therefore we treated the Addisons and the pancreatitis resolved itself.

I don't have any advise but wish you well with her. You're not far from me. I'm in Bremerton.

The one vet says Emmy has mild pancreatitis, although the emergency vet said could've been the bug she ate.. Anyway she's on low(Reduced) fat California Natural Lamb and rice which is lower in fat then the Hill's W/D. She does very well with an occasional adding rice/baby food to it(when she's eaten something she shouldn't...LOL) Her vet says it doesn't hurt her to stay on low fat even if it was just that bug...

Oh, and she'll be four this month----and her first episode or bug eating was two years ago.

Acute Pancreatitis is usually treated with low fat and highly digestable foods fed in frequent small amounts. Her current diet seems to be appropriate for this. Hope she recovers quickly!!

Wishing all the best to Osita. I know it is difficult when our babies age. It sounds like they are taking good care of her.

Thanks for all the advise, i havent really posted here before but i think ill start. And yes Osita is getting very good care there. I called the vet this morning and she is doing a lot better they say, they are going to draw blood and re check her pancreas and if all is well then she can come home tonight!!! They also checked her urine and i guess she has some gross bacteria in it so she needs to be on some antibiotics for a while.

But so far so good, i went and saw her last night and i couldnt help but cry. She seems so angry to be there and even ripped out her first iv in her left arm so they had to do one in the other arm. But they are starting to offer her a low fat bland food and she is refusing but they said they will keep trying a variety of different ones they have and hopefully she will be home tonight.

Thanks again everyone. Ill post pictures of her soon!!!
