inhaling food
Last question for the day...I promise.
How can you stop your dog from inhaling his food? He eats so fast, sometimes he throws it back up (which I do not include in the vomiting I'm talking about in my other thread). It got to the point that I've started soaking his food in warm water before giving it to him b/c he doesn't chew it. Here is a link to the other thread. Maybe they're linked? Could his bad eating habits be causing other stomach problems? http://www.prodoggroomingsupplies.co...ad.php?t=45904 |

are we talking about Merlin? if so he is young and needs to learn to relax lol Pom pups who are nervous can get so upset they upchuck.
and he may be eating too fast try giving him just a few kibble at a time to slow him down. Is he drinking alot? my pom used to drink alot too fast and then he wqould bring everything back up. I fixed a water bottle for him on his crate so he had to slow down. |

I don't really have time to give him little bits at a time in the morning. I'm doing other stuff while he's eating. It is slightly feasable that we could break his meals up into 3 times a day rather than 2, but my husband is in the military so there is never any guarantee that he can come home for lunch and I usually work lunch.

He may be wolfing his food down *because* he wants to spend time with you knowing you're leaving. Maybe feed him in the bathroom as you're getting ready...so he's near you and doesn't have to eat up to find you.

He does it in the evening too and most mornings, I'm still in the kitchen with him fixing my own breakfast.

Okay, this may sound crazy, but when a horse gourges his food, we put a big rock or some obstacle in his feed bucket to make it harder for them to eat. Some even have mounted balls that you fill with food that the horse has to roll to deposit small amounts of grain in a little dish. Do they have stuff like that for dogs?
