Poem for rescues

This has probably been posted here before, but... it's a nice poem in any case. This was given to me by the shelter in Simon's adoption packet:

The Meaning of Rescue
Now that I'm home, bathed, settled, and fed,
All nicely tucked in my new, warm bed,
I'd like to open my baggage
Lest I forget,
There is so much to carry-
So much to regret.

Hmm... Yes, there it is, right on top
Let's unpack Lonliness, Heartache, and Loss,
And there by my leash hides Fear and Shame.
As I look on these things I tried so hard to leave-
I still have to unpack my baggage called Pain.

I loved them, the others, the ones who left me,
But I wasn't good enough- for they didn't want me.
Will you add to my baggage?
Will you help me unpack?
Or will you just look at my things
And take me right back?

Do you have the time to help me unpack?
To put away my baggage,
To never repack?
I pray that you do- I'm so tired you see,
But I do come with baggage-
Will you still want me?
- Author Unknown

I see all of you who foster and bring countless animals into your homes, you're wonderful people and there are far too few of you. Thank you for all you do, in case you haven't heard it in a while.

That's a beautiful poem!! God Bless the unsung heros that bring in the lonely, abused and unwanted animals into their homes.

That is very nice poem! But so true in some of the unwanted animals. People get them and then just throw them out just like a bag of garbage. It is so sad that some of thoses animals have to go thru it brakes my heart. I think everyone needs to go thru a class on how to take care of a animal when you first get one and the important part of a animal life . They are not a toy they have feelings too. If you get one they are for life and don't treat them like a bag of garbage.

Beautiful poem, reminds us that the rescues do come with baggage. Sometimes people forget that.

Thank you for sharing.

I figured since the shelter gives it out in the adoption folder, they must want it spread around, so feel free to share it around. I thought it was a really good idea for them to throw that in with the vet records and adoption papers.
