Another Weezy Unhealthy Spell?

Well.. wouldn't you guess. Louise healthy for longer than 6 months? Too good to be true!

About 10 days ago, I started noticing Louise was shedding WAY more than she should, and a little early. I thought, uh oh.. here we go again. We did some bloodwork to test her Cobalamin (aka B12) levels. Sure enough, they are very low again. She was doing well on injections every 3 weeks, then moved to 4 weeks.

This time around, her doctor says we aren't controlling her IBD well enough. Oddly enough, she isn't having any diarrhea. However, she has lost about 4-5 lbs. So she decided to put Louise on Budesonide (a steroid). It is better than Prednisone though because it has minimal side effects in comparison. Although, it's a bit pricey. About $1.50/tablet. Ouch. Plus, she has upped her injections to weekly for 6 weeks for right now.

I picked up the new meds last Friday. I had to get just a week's worth of what they had in stock, because I had to get it specially compounded to the correct dosage for her.

Well, go figure! Louise has to be one of the few that does have side effects. She is having increased thirst/urination.

This is when it gets REALLY good. So this morning, she had an accident. AND PEEE-YUUU!! Her urine smells like some dead fish climbed up and crawled into her bladder!! My house smells horrible right now. Some serious Febreeze mixed with some candles/incense to help it out.

Get on the phone again today.. so now the plan for tomorrow is to bring her in to do a cystocentesis (to get her urine) and do a urine culture and urinalysis. Sounds like she has a UTI. In the mean time, I have to discontinue her new medication until this is resolved.

Oy vey. Poor Weezy! I'm sure she'll be fine and be able to get over this little rough patch.

So now (I'm sure) her new drug regime will be:
-Antibiotics (betting Clavamox or Ciprofloxacin) (for the UTI)
-Prednisone 5 mg (for the Addison's)
-Budesonide 2 mg (IBD)
-Derm Caps E/S 2 caps (for the coat)
-Vit B12 injections weekly
-Tylan Powder (IBD)

Fun! Fun! FUN!

No doubt about the lemon! She might even qualify for lemon juice at this point.

You are really a dedicated paw owner! You're a gal after my own heart.
You really keep putting one foot in front of the other trying to find the best
"fix, for lack of a better word. She is truly lucky to have you as a mom!

I know how hard it is to keep searching, think you found the right answer, then not, then...

I have a question.....why both Prednisone and Budesonide?
Maybe the double dose of steroid is too much for her adrenals to handle and that is why she is having side effects.

I had hoped that you had solved Weezy's problem....you've certainly been on top of her medical conditions!!

Good luck with your baby girl. I remember the days of having a multi drug dog and I would have changed one second of it. Even the pee lakes in the livingroom.

Have you thought about or talk to your vet about using acupuncture to assist with the treatment your already using. My old boy Sabaka had cushing syndrom and the acupuncture helped him so much.

Your a great mom, hugs to your girl.
