Malting..... and my poor hoover!

Its getting beyond a joke! I have a puppy German Sheperd who malts constantly, or so it seems. I have to hoover every day and its doing me in to be honest! A friend of mine said to give him cod liver oil tablets which I have given him every day for about a month now and its not made the blindest bit of difference! Is there anything I could do more to help the situation? Thanks!!!

He has a drinking problem does he? Is he into full malted? Just kidding. I know you mean shedding.

Welcome to the wonderful world of dog ownership. You can add oil to his diet. I've heard wonderful things about flax, fish and even olive oil that will help his coat. The best course is frequent brushing to remove loose hair before it falls on the rug. If you think it is really out of proportion, you should talk to your vet. Excessive hair shedding (loss) could be a sign of illness as well.

BTW - welcome to the forum and the Hoover Hair Club LOL

I have actually only just started to brush him everyday. I really didnt think you needed to everyday but by the state of my carpets its the best idea I think! Once the weather starts to get a bit nicer (Im in the UK!) Its gonna be alot easier cuz I'll be able to do it outside whereas Im doing it inside at the mo and of course its going everywhere. First thing in the morning in my PJ's outside fighting with a german shepard and a brush in the freezing cold!

She might be getting her new coat at the moment and that's why it's particularly bad. I know it doesn't seem like it's warming up here (I'm in the UK as well) but Poppy has started to shed so I'm putting it down to the weather. I brush Poppy every day and she's a lab so I would think that you'll have to do your German Shepard every day as well!!

Where abouts in the UK are you???

Regarding that Hoover...does anyone have any suggestions how to get very fine dog hair off high density/low pile carpet? Our little dog (Tibetan terrier mix, perhaps?) was naked (literally shaved to skin) when we adopted her. Now she's a ball of fluff. Bad news, she sheds and the hair is incredibly fine. It floats. Gets in your nose, your mouth, your eyes and all over the carpet. I've been rubbing an old rubber glove on the carpet to pick it up but this is *not* the best solution. Help. Please... Admtkuhn

Fine hair off a rug... a roller like you use on clothing, a lint brush... plain old duct tape.

Indoor brushing of the seriously shedding dog... take the wand on the vac... vac the dog as you brush. As the coat starts to behave... (eg: When my shepard/collie finished blowing his coat) I didn't have to brush often, just ran the vac wand over him.
If your vac doesn't have a wand... go invest in a cheap canister... if it's just for the dog, should last a long time... try for something kinda on the quiet side... and I don't recc a shop vac...
