Unhappy

I am fostering a rescued 7yr. old male minature poodle. According to the rescuers he suffered from horrible flea infestation, terrible teeth problems and a hernia. He is recovering from hernia surgery nicely. However, his coat is in the worst shape I have ever seen on a poodle. He won't let me brush or comb him. He has very little hair on his torso. Skin underneath is very dry and flaky. Fleas are gone.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I could do for his skin and coat? I think grooming is out of the question right now as he wants to bite me when I try to brush him. How about shampoos or other treatments.

Any ideas will be welcomed. Thanks

Red face

What about having him anestetized and shaved?
I am really not sure what else can be done. A vet will probably have the best answer.
But you are very sweet in fostering the dog in any case. Kudos to you!

Your poodle may have had inadequate nutrition previously which may also be contributing to all the other ailments, as well as reacting to the flea bites.

Make sure your dog is given a good well balanced diet with the correct nutritional content. Add a teaspoon of cod liver oil every day in food will help to condition your dog.

Yep angela said what I would have said. The poodle's diet could play a major role in improving this condition. Alot of people say that a raw egg will help tremendously with adding back that lust to the coat. Two eggs a week for Kai has done wonders.
