Rat POISON???

Hi
At the farm where i keep my horses the owner put out rat poison (whithout telling me!)
A couple of days ago a dog poo with rat poison in it was found there, i think my dog was the only one there over those days. I have read on the net that she needs a vet immediately and that symptoms may not show for weeks! I called the vet and was told that now thats its been a few days she would have been sick by now and that because she hasnt she should be ok! And to get back in touch if she gets unwell. Isnt timing everything? Who is right? What should i do? I am very worried now!

I would be off to a new vet or the er vet and have her blood work done. The least they can do is put her on Vitiman K just in case. Do the vet a favor and find out exactly what type of poision it was, this way they know what their looking for and exactly how to treat it.

Good luck hope your pup stays in good health.

Which brand of rat poison was it - I do agree with saluki-sue I'd be going to a new vet. Find out the brand, ring the maker and ask them what the procedure is for suspected poisoning.

Sue is right you should get her to the vet now and get her some blood tests done. Rat poison can cause internal bleeding (amongst other things) - you won't know if this has happened until it too late. You really need to get her checked out.

I'll also add that by the time the dogs show symptoms, it is usually too late to do anything.

Get to a vet!

I too agree - have a blood panel run. Rat poison can also cause organ damage (usually the liver). If you know for sure if any damage was done, you can start treating it now instead of when it happens. If possible, call the company and ask them what type of damage it could have done to your dog, also knowing the brand could help the vet.

Vet vet vet! I have a friend whose dog got into rat poison. Her dad came out the next day and found her unable to walk. She had to spend many days at the vet school and get doggie blood transfusions, and her back feet are still messed up from her not being able to walk properly. I would hope that if she got enough in her to cause problems like these that they could be prevented if you got her in in time.

Yes. that is why I said "Get to a vet!"

I was just warning the OP that if she was waiting for symptoms to show, it could very well be too late to treat.
