Girly boy?

Wasn't sure where to put this, I just guessed here...
Cooper is just about 9 months old and is STILL squatting to pee. Every once in awhile he start to lift up his leg while he's peeing, but he still squats. I thought he was supposed to be done squatting when he was 8 months?! Any idea what's going on with him?

Some dogs just don't. Not that I would know because Kirby started around 4 months (like a centimeter), but some adult male dogs just don't- while some adult female dogs do.

Reid is almost 2 years old and doesn't lift his leg. I prefer it that way.

My brother's cocker spaniel still squats to pee most of the time and he is 2.5 years old. They were told that he would have to watch another male dog to know that he needs to lift his leg - not sure how true that is though.

For most male dogs leg lifting is a learned behavior. So do learn by trial and error, but it takes them longer. I would rather my boys never learn to leave pee-mail makes taking walks go faster.

BE I feel for you. I have a APBT bitch boarding with me and she marks everything. She even pees up the side of trees after the boys do. She is the doggies bitch I've ever met. Funny how Poppy knows to mark over the fox poop, she just likes to let everyone know what her turf is.

Hudson dosnt lift his leg, one because he would only have two legs to stand on then and the other because he was nutered young. From what my vet told me, a dog lifts his leg to mark his territory and he will only start that when he gets older and the hormons start...about 6 months. Thats why a few years ago they always told you to nuter your dog before six months so you dont have to worry about him marking.

Soooo if you nuter your dog before the hormons kick in then your dog will not lift his leg because he dosnt know to!!! You have nothing to worry about.
