Lightbulb you took in a pup in need, now what?

I thought I'd post some helpful info for those of you who have taken in a critter/dog in need and don't know how to go about finding them a new home.
Petfinder is a great place to start.
At the top of the home page is Classified Ads, then Post a free ad. The rules are clearly spelled out. It's for the non rescue/shelter org's that take in a stray etc and are trying to home them.
Next, on the left side of the page is "find animal welfare groups". Put your zip code in the location and it will bring up a list from closest on out. Contact them to see if they will help by taking the dog (or other critter ie: Brats bunny) in to rescue or courtesy posting them for you so it's on the rescue/shelter petfinder pages as well.
Hope this helps some of you who so gracoiously help those you can and aren't affiliated with a rescue/shelter. I know there are loads of you here that do it!

Go for it. It's got all the rules clearly written and easy to understand right before clicking on the submit ad button to make your post.
The rescue links are good too as an additional source.

Craigslist makes me so sad - I'd rather see the dogs on their in the hands of legitimate rescue rather than passed on and on and on

I know what you mean! There's a "challenged" young woman near me that was the craig's list puppy collector and rehomer if you remember her? Paisley came from her. She seems to have stuck with 2 now and has only brought one more in meanwhile. I think I finally reached her and made her understand she can't do it again. My patience is running thin. She's not in the system other than section 8 housing
I brought her the humane society low cost applications, had her fill it out, turned it in and will now get their shots next Tuesday and then set up the spay/neuters and take them then too.
I bring her my donated purina puppy chow as she usually gets the food from the food bank in small 4 lb quantities. I get lots of that given to me and don't use it. It's better than nothing for her 2 don't you think?
Guess I've gone off on another tangent. Courtesy of the nutty lady
Oh and our rescue is paying the humane society fees as she has nothing.
If we took them, she's just get more from craig's list

I almost feel badly for "collectors," maybe they really do want to help but they always end up mucking it up. We had one when we had the boutique that was a cat collector. I always gave her the bags of broken cat food (solid gold) - she too was a bit of a nut-bar (though I'm not one to talk LOL)

Maybe they should learn to collect lint .
