Nails cut them or not?

I have a 2yr old basset hound, she has one nail that allwys curls round which i have to take her to the vets constantly to get clipped, now the last time i went to the vets he told me that this nail is always going to do this no matter how much i walk her on concrete, he has suggested that i buy some nail clippers for her and do it myself.
Now i am a bit nervous of doing this i am scared i will catch the neve in the nail, could anybody give me some tips on doing this? thanks

Cutting nails can be done at home with little problems. I can't say that I know many dogs that love it but most will tolerate it

This thread on Nails will help you. Invest in a GOOD pair of nail trimmers with a guard or a Nail dremel.

If you are still uncertain or nervous about it, you can either post or pm me, I just happened to help someone else yesterday overcome the fear of trimming nails, they successfully did a prelim clip in the end.

And now they've successfully done the full clip. On all black nails. And got the dog to enjoy it.

Thanks, ellie!

Yippee Spyder you did it....you know when I woke up this morning I was working out our time frames and I thought, yes it is tomorrow for you now already, wonder if your clippers arrived and how you went. lol.

If Spyders nails seem a little rough now that is normal, but you can just take the edge off them with a bit of fine sandpaper...I used to do it for my elderly clients dogs when I was dog grooming.

Hee hee, you oldy..lol.

It was SO easy. He's such a great dog (sorry, proud mama here!). He lay right down on the floor and just let me play around with all of his nails...and he normally HATES that! But, I did mention the word "Greenie" to him before hand, so I think he knew what was coming when I was done.

So, the grooming is going well. I think next, I'll try to fancy him up a bit...something like this.

Those teen years with Spyder were RUFF, I'm tellin' ya! LOL

Seriously...to the original poster. Read the thread about clipping nails, and ask ellierat any specific questions about things you're still uneasy about. It was easy as pie. Well, easier, since I don't make pies.
