Dogue De Bordeaux & My Next Adult Foster

I had to go to the shelter today and lookie what I found there! I can't believe this boy was in there.
Does this guy make you want to cry or what??
They did not post the regular card on his kennel but instead an info sheet on this breed. I've never seen the likes of one of these guys there before there.

Now this guy will be my next adult foster. He's a rottie or mix of. He's not doing well there and I'm hoping one of the big boys finds his home this weekend so I can spring this guy...
His name was Sinbad but were changing it to Captain.
These are not great photos but then I wouldn't take a good photo from doggie jail either. His owner went to prison for beating up the girlfriend. She didn't know or want to know what to do with this dog so she chained him out back all winter. He finally broke loose in the neighborhood and animal control picked him up. I transported him from the boarding kennel he was at while the shelter was full and he was a very nice boy. I knew the shelter would be hard for him but didn't think it'd be this hard!

I've always like the Dogues, but then I do like the big boys best. Poor Captain, the woman should go to prison for abuse. People make me so ill. Hope one of the big guys do find a home, any prospects?

Oh! Captain looks like Mira!!!!! He looks soooo sad. If you don't get any adoptions are you still going to take him?

No, not for the big boys. Only Lizzie and many of the pups so far.

He's patheticlly miserable there. He's getting snotty with the kennel workers too now. He needs out. I really, really don't want 3 young freshly neutered big males here but I'm also afraid of something happening there where he won't have his second chance either. He's not the same dog there.
He came from the neighborhood that our admin person lives in. That's how I became involved with him.
To answer you, I don't know but probably if I can get some help on occasion for the next week!

I know! These 2 really got me today and one I'm trying to help. He's why I went there today plus to make some altering arrangement for the huge 3 new puppies for next week.

Does the shelter there give you the dogs? Do they neuter them as well. I'm wondering b/c our shelter does not co-operate at all with the rescue. We would have to go in and "adopt" a dog we want to get. And yes they are a kill shelter.

The new director is awesome! They are working with the rescues and other resources. Check this out..
They have not euthanized a dog since Feb!!! March was the first month in their 100 year history of known documentation that they didn't have a single euthanazia!
The new thinking there is "it's a community problem not just a humane society problem".
Might want to take this info to your shelter director!!!
We can get some of our own dogs altered there if they have appointment room.
If we take from them, they come altered and with all shots but rabies (they do not do rabies at all there). I took Maia back there for altering after she weaned her pups as that's where she came from.

They have had us join in on adoption events twice now. We will be with them for this years petwalk which is a huge show up. They are making an area called Rescue Row for us rescues to show up and get known too. It's in May and I can't wait! I've done the walk for years now.

Oh dang T, see now if I'd have just stayed in Cali I could drive up the coast and help you pull them. Crumbs. Will Rottie & Dogue rescue help with these guys?
