HI, I am new here. My name is Heather and I have a problem with my dog. I got her from someone who didn't take very good care of her, was mean to her most of the time. She is a really good dog, except she is extremely agressive towards ALL other dogs. Which is not good because we have quite a few dogs here. I keep her seperated from them most of the time because I am afraid they will hurt her to badly if she goes after them. Which she does.
I have tried telling her no, I have tried muzzling her and letting her run towards the other dogs, she still acts as if she will tear them to shreds, they don't bother her back though. the muzzle has not tamed her a bit. I really just don't have any idea how to get to her stop this behavior. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!! The dog is a female, fixed, about 3-4 years old. She is a part Chihuahu/ part jack russle terrier. Thanks again for any information. Heather |

Well heather I am having the same problem with my two pups. I guess it all comes down to what you believe about dogs and behavior. If you believe dogs are pack oriented as I do, than let them fight it out. It will pass and hopefully with out getting to ugly. It is getting better with my two especially since dexter beat her up not too bad just cut her ear. She knows her place for now though. Or thought #2, u need to shape your dogs behavior, maybe take the pup to obedience classes, or also try taking the pup to a behaviorest... let me know which route you take.

I'm not a dog expert but it seems that this little dog is a mix between 2 hyper breeds. It always seems to be the little dog in the bunch that's the bravest.
I got a spayed female shepherd mix from the shelter about 6 weeks ago. She's about 1 year old. I have a male Lab mix about 8. Now Mickey, the male can get along with most dogs. But, Molly and him had to have it out a few times before they could get along. I still don't feed them in the same room. Mickey still growls. But when I'm in the kitchen and give them something to lick, they can do it together. Strange. Lucky for the little dog that none of the other dogs have taken revenge. Maybe some good old fashion scolding is in line. Yell at her with a very sharp NO! Fill a tin can with washers and shake it at her while yelling NO! No! No! Walk her on a leash with a pinch collar on her neck around the other dogs and immediately correct when she growls, pulls the leash or any other misbehavior. She can't get along. Time out in the kennel, outside, or where ever she can be confined. Always have a correction collar (a choke chain)on her when you're around to make immediate corrections. Now, this worked with Mickey. When he came home at 6 months, he chased the cats. I held him and petted the cats and said "love the kitties". He truly listened and loved the kitties. But, Molly is older and this didn't work so well. So I do have a choke collar on her and firmly scold her with a No Kitty reprimand. I pull on the collar. Sometimes I still have to put her outside with constant reminding that she can't come in until no barking, whining and certainly no kitties. |

Agression needs professional attention. It may have several causes.
