Does anyone here breed Great Danes?

I am in search of a dane with tight skin around the eyes (no haw) and a pretty shaped head.

Let me know if you have some pups or young adults available.

Thanks!

Try looking at local shelters, or organizations in your area that specifically rescue dogs of certain breeds. Some of the most loving and affectionate dogs are out there waiting to be rescued.

IMO- I personally rather save a mutt than contribute to innocent animals being put to sleep from the large amounts of homeless dogs and over breeding.

Angry What did you just say???

{Quote from Southern girl09 - General Dog Chat, post #8]Why not just take the dog to another neighborhood? Someone will probally take it in. Why cant you take it to the Humane Society?{end Quote]

I can't believe what I just read by you. I'm trying to buy a pup and you respond by suggesting that I pick a pup from a rescue - as if to say you are more sensitive/responsible than I about the welfare of dogs. However, I will not take the advice from someone who tells others to take an unwanted dog to an unfamiliar neighborhood and let it out - to wander around - banking that someone will "probably" take it in.

What if no one takes it in, and it dies from long drawn out starvation/dehydration? What if it gets hit by a car before it can find shelter?

While I am not trying to be rude here...this is very upsetting - I would never do that to a dog, nor suggest that someone else let a dog out in unfamiliar surroundings to fend for itself. It's cruel, irresponsible and uncaring - how could anyone even think or suggest this kind of alternative to handling an unwanted dog and at the same time, associate themselves with rescue people.

With that being said - anyone know of a reputable breeder of great danes that might have a CURRENT litter available? I have been to danesonline.com and other sources. I have a few leads, but I want to turn over every stone before making a decision. So, I thought I would try here too - it's worth a shot! Thanks.

It was just a suggestion to look at local shelters. From what I saw on this forum, I do not think anyone sells their pups. It seems the breeding section of the forums is to provide inforamtion to those who have a pregnant dog. Good luck in your search for a great Dane, I think they are adorable.

Good luck in your search. I did this when I was looking for a purebreed rotti and it ended up with me getting Ariel at a great price.

I send out a fax to all the vet clinics in the phone book that listed their fax number. I asked if they had a client who recently had a litter of {insert breed here}. I got a phone call that day. Since you can send from your computer in most cases, this won't cost you anything plus you might find a true jewel like my Ariel.

You can also go to AKC.org and look thru their list of breeders.

Marcie is in Wisconsin. I worked with her when I had a problem with Chyna, a Great Dane I had a while. She was Chyna's breeder. She was absolutely wonderful to deal with and breeds excellent quality danes. I know that she was expecting litters, not sure how many or when.

misfitdogmom is on a distinguished road
check your local newspaper.. i know up here in Buffalo there's ALWAYS people selling dogs in the paper.. kindda sad when you think about it, but hey, they all need homes! check out some of those litters before going and spending an arm and a leg on a purebred.. my friend Angie has 2 Danes.. a brindle and a harlequin.. gorgeous animals.. she picked them up from a breeder in the paper. If your intent is for a family dog, try this. If your intent is for a show-quality/breeding animal, then by all means, do LOADS of research!! goodluck on your search!!
