I just have to say EEEEWWWWWWW!!!!

I just have to say EEEEWWWWWWW!!!!

Coby has been attacking his butt and rubbing his butt on the floor. We were thinking he might have worms, but he is on Sentinel so he shouldn't have any kind of worms or flea's.

After talking to Brat and going to Pet Smart and trying to figure out which worm treatment to get and talking to employee's at the store. I was directed to the grooming area where I was told that he probably needed to have his Anal Glands secreted. That is what Brat said as well so that is what we did.

Did you all know that for $10.00 you could bring your dog to Pet Smart and have their Anal Glands secreted. I did not know that until today.

We have never had this problem so this is all new to me. I am so glad I didn’t have to do this myself. I would have probably thrown up.

Anyways, all is good with Coby again and he isn’t attacking his butt anymore.

EWWWWW is right. I had a Beagle that had to have them secreted often. If he got nervous, they used to leak and the odor would curl your toes! I did not know Petsmart did this, I always went to the vet, for a lot more money! Good to know!

Tht is a great price, less than what my vet charges (I think about $20-$25). I certainly wouldn't do it for that! It is truly gross! I'd be a little concerned though that Coby might have an infection and need antibiotics to clear it up.

Come on, people- it's not that bad. Soap and water is a wonderful thing. I'd do it all day long for $25 a pop.

More fiber in their diet will help them to express naturally.

LOL!!! That would get attention and maybe even an interview!

I know many of you do your own grooming, but for those of you that take your furbabies to a groomer for bathing and clipping, is expressing anal glands part of the package deal? I know it is everywhere I have gone. That is another reason I have someone else do the grooming.

Some groomers do, some don't.

I won't do it. The groomers and Vets will so I leave it to them. I've got my elbows deep in cleaning up everything else.. groomers and vets can have the anal cleanout and it's worth whatever they charge for me to NOT have to do it!!!!

To those of you that do... kudos!

Every groom shop I've worked at has offered AG expression as part of the bath. We will also do it for $15 for walk-in clients. You get used to the smell after a while.
