Entropia

The last time Greta was at the vet for vaccinations, I told the vet that she was getting more gunk than normal in her eyes. The vet checked and said she has entropia, which is a condition that causes the dog to roll their eyes inward causing the dog's eyelashes to point inward. She seemed to have absolutely no concern and removed the one eyelash that was causing the problem. She said Labs were prone to it. Never said anything else to me about it. No concerns, no worries or anything if it were to happen again.

So I have noticed that Greta is having the same problem again. Her left eye has more than normal puss. And I have told you all how I feel about eye boogers. I can't stand them. So I did some research about entropia. From what I found, entropia can be extremely painful because the eyelashes can scratch and scar the cornea. And this can result in loss of vision. And the only real way to treat entropia is with surgery.

Now, other than having a large amount of eye boogers, she doesn't seem to have any other issues. No red eye, no half closure of the eye. So obviously I don't think that this is a major problem, yet. Or maybe it could be a misdiagnosis by my vet

Anyone else have to deal with entropia? Or know anything about it? I really didn't find too much info out there.

And what do I do right now? The vet removed the eyelash that was causing the problem last time, but there is no way I am getting that close to my dog's eye with a tweezer. I would cause more harm than good. And this does not call for a trip to the vet by any means.

Greta, I'm pretty sure that there are degrees of infliction. Sounds like Greta has a very mild case. I thought Ariel has this as a puppy too. I would phone the vet and see if pulling the lash out is the way to go vs trimming them. Either way sounds like a "more than one person" job to hold her steady.
