I would get him re-examined. This is based on the sound of the heart. When you look for a home for him, they new owners must be aware that they could face some substantial vet bills over the life of the dog.

Personally, in your shoes, I would keep the pup myself. That is the only sure way to guarantee he will get the medical attention he needs.

Thanks both the puppies are going back to vets next week to be examined again. I would never sell the puppy under false pretenses, that just wouldn't be fair on anyone and as for keeping him I would love to but Dh on the other hand decided the week before puppies were due he doesn't want a second dog, so I this next week will be hard and decisions will have to be made.

Your pups need to have their hearts checked by echo before placing. Its rare to have a boxer without a murmur which I have never had a boxer adult or pup with a murmur this is what health tests are for to help prevent these types of things. What type murmur was the vet declaring it to be???

Agreed!!! Murmurs can go away with age. It depends on the grade of it.
If it is faint, he may outgrow it but be prepared that this may be a life long thing that will need treatment.

Sorry to hear this news but wish you the very best.

They haven't told me the type of murmur I'm going back next week and hopefully I'll get some answers. I did talk to the vet today while I was making appointment and she didn't tell me much and I asked for information but she didn't have any offhand to give me (no leaflet) so that's why I'm asking here.

Most heart murmurs are graded in severity on a scale like 1/6, 2/6 up to 6/6, which is the worst.

I just lost a dog ith a 4/6 murmur and I can tell you that for us it was a very expensive ordeal. Any dog with a serious murmur should see a cardiologist, IMO. Some just need monitoring; some need lots of meds. The best thig I ever did for my dog was see a holistic vet who put him on numerous Chinese herbs. I am certain this greatly extended his life.

I have several very informative articles on HM's. PM me if you'd like me to send you copies.

Keep us posted.

Also.. It is very common for an 8-12 week old puppy to have a murmur. My first BC did, and it was gone before she was 6 months old, and she never had any trouble. And she went on to be a very active and competitive dog. Talk to your vet, find out more info. If your vet feels that this is something to be concerned about, see a specialist and have an echo done.

We will keep our paws crossed and hope for the best. Keep us posted!

Having a heart murmer is a SYMPTOM, not a diagnosis. A heart murmer simply means that the heart doesn't sound like "lub-dub-lub-dub." It might sound like "lub-whoosh-dub," and it could mean anything from the dog being excited or scared, or it could be disease related.
