my 9 week old great dane puppy is hurting...but why?

Since early this morning, she doesnt seem to ever feel comfortable, she whines, she jumps up in a "start" every once in a while as if bitten by something and will run around my house as if totally restless. She shakes her head and scratches quickly...and her heart seems to beat harder at times.

I believe she's healthy and she is eating and drinking regularly. I take her outside and she runs very well and acts normal. But when we come back in, she's back to her restless self....

Any ideas on what it could be? Tooth ache? growing pains? some other kind of ache that makes her uncomfortable? or something more serious

Welcome to the forum!! I think your best bet is to get her off to the vet and let him have a look at her. Also if you can get some video to show the vet how she has been acting that would be a great tool as well

Now...WE NEED SOME PICS PLEASE

Could be separation anxiety. Do you have any other dogs? Remember she's a baby, suddenly taken from the warmth and comfort of her mother and siblings.

Check her ears too. Make sure they aren't infected as that could be the cause of the head shaking

Welcome!!!! She is certainly a baby....when did you get her? At what age? When has this behavior started? Has she been vet checked? Sorry for so many questions but a little more info would be helpful.

Thanks for all the welcome greetings! i'll put some pics up very soon...i'm a biased dad, but she's to die for.

I got her at 7 weeks and she's 9 weeks now. I've had her to get her first shots and she checked out well. The behavior only started this morning.

I'm going to keep watching her and if it persists then i'll take her in. THanks for all the help and keep it coming please!!

Well 7 weeks old is a little young to get her, she is up to date on vaccinations? May have to work on her bite inhibitions and security from where she left early from the others. I would make sure the breeder had her vaccinated before you got her since people were introduced to the pups young age and I see you did as well, she can still catch things keep her away from doggy areas awhile still. Also I would become very familiar with feeding and watering needs of danes to guard against bloat/gastric torsion

I agree in checking all these things. But I don't think 7 weeks is too young(of course, MHO) I get all my pups at 7 weeks, so I can expose them to as many new things and surroundings (safely) as I can before the 8-12 week fear cycle hits. I find things are a lot less scary for my pup, if I have them at 7 weeks. If my whole litter had made it... I would have wanted them to go to their homes at 7 weeks or after 12 weeks, but that is just me.
I don't think that there will be any trouble with bit inhibition, as they learn that from there litter mates between 4-5 weeks old. That is when I had to teach it to Devlin, since he had no litter mates, and Lil has had not issues.
Make sure that vaccines and health checks are up to date. And I am very careful about public places while they are young. I think feeding her and watering her from an elevated dish is a must as well... That will really help with upset stomach.

In most states in the united states if not all it is illegal to separate pups before 8 weeks of age but personally I prefer 10 weeks or older. I think some breeds may be affected more so than others at the ages they go to their new homes as well.

she has only gotten her first set of shots...after those shots i've had her play 2x with my girlfriend's 3 adult dogs. I'm cutting it off, but could that have made her catch something? i have an adult dog also. should i make sure she doesnt see other dogs until she's gotten more shots?

as far as an update, she seems to be settling down...maybe just because she's tired for the night.
