My dogs having seizures again
Hi everyone!
My dog Remy (german shepard mix) was diagnosed with epilepsy about 2 years ago. He is 5 1/2 now. At first he was having his seizures once a month but he wasn't losing his bladder and bowel function during the seizures. Then I switched his food from Science Diet to Purina One "All Natural" and his seizures stopped for about a year. Two weeks ago he had his first seizure while I was at work and actually put his paw right through my drywall and lost bladder and bowel control. This past Monday he had another one while I was at work and couldn't get off my bed. When he started the seizures the vet left it up to me whether to put him on medication, I chose not to and it seemed the right choice at the time. Now I'm wondering what the opinions are of what could be bringing them on after all this time. Should I put him on medication or should I keep a log for a while? |

Funny you should say that, I was just researching natural foods online. I just saw the Canidae brand and was looking on their website but it's always good to hear someone else back a product up. I think I will try a better food and see what happens. Thanks so much!

I have a Beagle with Epilepsy and I chose to put him on medication. His seizures were happening approx. every 3 weeks. He is on a low dose of Phenobarbitol and he has not had a seizure in about 6 months. The only reason why he had one 6 months ago was because we tried to take him off the meds and started to cut his dosage in half...it did not work.
I feed him Canidae and Innova and he is a healthy, happy little boy

Remy hasn't had any new vaccinations. I started him on his heartworm medication but he had already had a seizure before that. I've heard stories of the seizure medications that if you don't give it every day at the "exact" same time it can actually cause a seizure. Is that true or were people telling me stories?

Do you have to give the medication with food? I'm only asking because Remy has always been a strange eater. His food sits there all day and he just eats when he wants. (which is usually in the middle of the night)
