I am so Mad!!!!!

MY sister-in-law has a little pug. Her pug has just came into heat for the first time and she is 7 mos. old and she told me that next heat she was going to breed her. I told her that she would only be around 12 to 13 mos. and that was too young to breed any that she needed to wait until she was at least 2 years old. Well she said everyone i know breeds them on their 2 heat. I told her i didn't care what everyone else done that she is still a baby and it will hurt her hips if breed too early. She told me that the lady she got her from said that it would be ok. I told her well she must be a BYB. That she needs to talk to the vet about it first and also take her to the vet and have her checked out before even breeding her. I also asked her about the male he needs to be vet checked also. She told me that i was crazy and i didn't know what i was talking about. I told her that she don't need a animal if she was going to make sure that she was in good health before breeding her and also breeding her while she is still a baby. I told her that was just like a 6 or 7 year old haveing a baby.

I have family like that - won't think twice about breeding a pet (one cousin specifically) some people just refuse to learn, especially if it means money coming *out* of their pockets.

I know your feeling.. My mom works with a woman who is a pet broker (meaning she buys dogs from "breeders" and then sells them for a profit). I have to bite my tongue everytime I see her, because my mom works with her (and it is at a small bank), but she knows that it makes me sick to my stomach.

Unfortunately some people see pets as cash machines and think that they can make an easy buck off the puppies. I hope the more you can talk to her, the more she will hear.

Yeah that sucks. We have this employee at work, her boyfriend has 2 poodles. She wants a yorkie and maybe another to buy to breed because 1,000 a piece is hard to resist I guess in her eyes. All on top of wanting to poison her boyfriends 2 poodles which she can't stand because she says they aren't well taken care of. Why would you want to breed dogs when you have ones you hate and want to frickin kill. She was talking about some gel someone can get at a university which is what they use to euthanize test bunnies so she can kill his poodles while her boyfriend goes to California.

I hear you. Probably not much sense you can talk into her but at least you tried.

Tell her to read my post in the Breeding Discusions thread and see if she is up to all the things that can go wrong. I did all the research and testing and almost everything that could go wrong has happened and I was lucky not to to lose my dog in the process. I would hate to see anyone go through this let alone someone who has no knowledge about the risks.

People suck anr they suck more when it is family. You are absolutely right and good for you for sticking to your guns.

Is there are reason she feel the need to bred her at all ? Perhaps she is so misinformed she needs a gentle nudge. I would try to steer her towards her Vet, some reputable breeders and some Vet posted information on the net.

If you go to hard at her she may dig her heels in and shut you out, try to go about it in a way that make her think you are in it to help her not criticize. Play her and her pup will be the winner.

Inlaws suck eh ?
