Thumbs up Ryley's Run Rescue Benefit 2008

Yesterday (Saturday) I traveled to Albany to represent the Sled Dog Action Coalition (SDAC) at the Ryley’s Run rescue benefit. The goal of Ryley’s Run is to make the public aware of just how many dogs are out there, alone, and how many have been abused, abandoned & neglected. The organization holds the event in the hopes of raising a substantial amount of money, and then donates that money to different rescue organizations each year.

I was proud to represent the abused, abandoned and neglected sled dogs of the Iditarod at this event. Their stories need to be heard. I was able to reach a number of people through my photography and conversation. I also handed out leaflets with summarized Iditarod cruelty information, along with a link to the SDAC website.

For more information on Ryley’s Run, please check out their website.

There were a number of rescue groups, vendors and even a hot air balloon at this event! There was a 5K race and a raffle. Everyone had a great time and it was nice to be able to meet and network with other rescue groups from further away.

Has anyone here ever been to one of the Ryley's Run rescue benefits before? I saw mention of it a year or two back on this forum but wondered if anyone here now had ever gone to one? If you look at their website, they have these events in numerous places across the country each year.

Oh, and here's a picture of my little setup!

That is pretty cool. I had not heard of Ryley's Run. There is not one in NC, but one is SC this summer/fall. I couldn't find an exact date or location. Thanks for sharing this info.

i posted about our involvement in RR laast year, and thought i had a thread for this year, but i can't seem to find it. although, i notice that no threads in the rescue section are older than May 9th, and i'm sure i posted it before then. oh well.

anyway, i had a table there for Labs4Rescue, and there is a bunch of us from another forum who are involved with helping set the event up. we packed the goodie bags friday night along with the folks that have the hot air balloon and the folks running the walk up registrations.

hope you had a good turnout at your table. walk up registrations were way down this year because it was hot as h.ell yesterday. it was over 90 with high humidity. last year folks hung around and bought stuff at the booths, but this year, everyone took off right after the raffle prizes were done.

i have a ton of photos from the event i'll post when i get home and get them downloaded.

as for South Carolina, i believe the event is happening in Hilton Head. i can get you more info if you like, the person running it is on another forum i go to.

Faith, too bad we didn't get a chance to meet. And yes, it was a scorcher. I suggested to Donna that next year they have kiddy pools with water and blocks of ice, like they do at agility and herding trials, so the dogs can cool off easier. She liked that idea.

I took some cute candid photos and Donna said she'll be using them on the website, but I don't know when she'll get it up so I'll go ahead and post them here to share!

Those pictures are great! And I like the pool idea if it is going to be very hot.

the golden who's popping his head out of the SUV is named Caue. his dad brought him and his brother all the way from Maine near the Canadian border. he was a bit of a sir-humps-alot but he was so fun to have around b/c he's only just over a year so he's still a complete puppy.

did you see the 2 lab / golden puppies they had there for adoption? i almost took them both home!

i will get my photos sorted some time later today. Faith and I need a nap first.

I don't think I saw the puppies, no. I completely understand about the nap. I got up at 3:30 AM yesterday to shower, set up the animals for the day and start traveling to Albany. Trip took three hours out. It was well worth it. The driving both ways and the heat just destroyed me though. I slept a for a long time last night!!
