Something strange with Maia

Hi everyone- Today, Maia has been walking weirdly. I got fired from my job, so I've been able to give her a lot of attention (that's the only good thing about not being able to work). Anyway, she was out in the yard playing this morning, and was fine. Then this afternoon, I took her for a walk, and she looked funny walking. It was like she was walking on her toes-only on her back feet. We got home, and after I took her collar and leash off, she laid down, which is normal. But when I called her to me, she crawled, pulling herself with her front feet. I felt around to see if anything was hurting. Her back was fine, but on one back leg, when I rubbed the area between her hip and the first joint on the leg (would you call it a knee?) she wimpered, and didn't want me to fool with it. She is eating and drinking well and otherwise seems fine. I was worried that maybe she had hurt her back, like I said it doesn't seem to hurt if I touch it. I know her nails are too long right now-could that affect how she walks? If it keeps up, I'll get her to the vet. Does anyone have any ideas what I can do to help her feel better? Thanks for your help! Kathy

I don't think I could rest until I had taken her to the vet. I know it costs money to do that but it could be anything from a pulled tendon/muscle in her leg to a spinal injury to ingestion of a poison.....
I hope she feels better soon and look forward to updates!!

I would take her to the vet and have some x-rays and blood panel done!.Until you go to the vet, keep her calm and don't ask to move unless she needs to!.

I can imagine how distressing this must be to you...it would be for me. The only way to know what's going on is to get her to a vet.

Good luck and please keep us posted.

Well, today Maia doesn't seem any worse. I've tried to keep her quiet all day-the only way to do that is to sit with her on the couch. It's taken me almost 2 years to get her so that she will sit with me and trust me, so I don't mind her on the couch. She was just out doing her business, and was able to walk doing that, but still looks strange-I can't figure out what looks different, but it is something. I'm hoping that tomorrow she will wake up and be feeling better. Hopefully whatever it is will heal on its own. If not, I'll be taking her to the vet on Monday. I'm going anyway because she is due for her shots, so I'll have him check her out also. She's funny, 'cause when she lays on the couch, she likes to pull the blanket off the back of the couch, and make a little place for her to put her head under, or at least her nose-she looks so cute. It's taken me a long time to get her to trust me, but I think she is doing a lot better. Now I just have to get her better so we can go walking now that I have the time. Thanks for your posts. Kathy and Maia
